ABSTRACT
Volatile oil represent the essential oil with the different compositions
depends on source of plants and chemical physics different.
Kemangi (Ocimum americanum L.) Is one of the plants species that
contain volatile oil and a lot of people used to vegetable and flavour.
To increase the function and to know the component of volatile oil of
basil, therefore we analyses the research include simplex characterization,
isolation of volatile oil was accomplished by steam distillation, and analyzed
volatile oil components by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.
The result of simplex characteristics were obtained water value 7.99%,
water soluable extract value 17,89%, ethanol soluble extract value 13,13%, total
ash value 7.31%, acid insoluble ash value 0.82%, The volatile oil from the fresh
leafs (Ocimumi Folium) content was 0,84% v/w and dried leafs content was 1,20
% v/w. The refractive index of volatile oil from the fresh leafs and dried leafs
value are 1.5121. The specific gravity volatile oil from the fresh leafs value 0.973
and dried leafs value 0.955.
The results of Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
analyses of volatile oil from the kemangis fresh leafs revealed the presence of
E-citral (42,87%); Z-citral (33,24%); 5-hepten-2-one (2,88%); Nerol (19,56%);
dan L-linalool 0,93%. The results of Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
(GC-MS) analyses of the volatile oil from the kemangis dried leafs the major
component that is E-citral (45,89%); Z-citral (33,96%); L-linalool (3,32%);
caryophillen oxide (2,43%) dan Alpha- caryophillen (2,12%).
