Perpustakaan sekolah merupakan perpustakaan yang diselenggarakan oleh sekolah.untuk

menunjang program belajar mengajar di sekolah pada semua jenjang.Oleh karena itu sekolah
memahami pentingnya sekolah untuk media pembelajaran. Ada beberapa alasan Perpustakaan
sekolah itu penting.

Pertama, perpustakaan sekolah menunjang proses belajar mengajar. Perpustakaan merupakan

satu unit kerja yang menyediakan sumber-sumberinformasi sebagai bahan kegiatan proses belajar
mengajar. Tanpa kehadiranperpustakaan, maka kegiatan belajar mengajar mengajar tidak akan
efektif, karenabaik guru maupan siswa yang terlibat dalam proses belajar mengajar tersebut
tidakmemiliki akses yang mudah, cepat, dan luas pada sumber-sumber informasi.

Kedua, perpustakaan sekolah melatih siswa untuk belajar mandiri. Dengan jumlah buku yang
dapat dimanfaatkan siswa untuk belajar, siswa Belajar untuk mandiri dan tidak mempertimbangkan
guru sebagai satu-satunya sumber belajar. Jadi dengan bimbingan dari guru dan staf perpustakaan
sekolah, siswa akan lebih kreatif dalam mengikuti hal-hal baru di luar yangdisampaikan oleh guru di
kelas.

Ketiga, perpustakaan sekolah dapat membuat siswa belajar mampu mendukung kebutuhan
informasinya. Siswa mampu mencari dan menemukan sendiri sumber informasi yangrelevan, nanti
dia akan mencari informasi yang dibutuhkannya juga memanfaatkan informasi tersebut sesuai
dengan kebutuhannya. Inilah yang disebut dengan litersi informasi. Literasi informasi merupakan hal
yang sangat penting yang akan sangat dibutuhkan oleh mereka yang hidup di era
masyarakatinformasi yang akan mengahadapi persaingan global.

Jadi, kesimpulannya adalah perpustakaan sekolah memegang peranan penting dalam upaya
menambah wawasan siswa. Perpustakaan sekolah juga merupakan sumber belajar, sumber informasi
dan sumber ilmu, karena di dalam perpustakaan terdapat buku fiksi dan non fiksi yang dapat dibaca
oleh siswa.Perpustakaan sebagai sistem pendidikan sekolah integral dan menyeluruh, karena antara
kegiatan dan peran perpustakaan dengan kegiatan belajar mengajar disekolah saling keterkaiatan
satu sama lain.
