B. Tujuan Pembelajaran.

Melalui pendekatan saintifik dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Inquiri Learning,


peserta didik dapat memahami konsep So/such ... that dan dapat menyusun kalimat dengan
konsep so/such ... that ... , dengan mengembangkan sikap religius, penuh tanggung jawab,
bekerja keras, serta dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis, kreativitas,
kolaborasi, komunikasi (4C).

A. MATERI PEMBELAJARAN

1. Materi Pembelajaran Reguler

a. Fakta:
Ø Di Tunjukkan Contoh kalimat So / Such ... That ... untuk menyatakan dan menanyakan
tentang keterkaitan antara keadaan benda dengan pengaruhnya, sesuai dengan konteks
penggunaannya.
Pola kalimat:
Ø So + adj/adv + that
Ø Contoh kalimat: She is so beautiful that many boys like her.
Ø Such + noun + that
Ø Contoh kalimat: It is such a nice car that many people buy it.
Berikut 5 contoh kalimat penggunaan so ... that
Ø 1. She is so smart that she can get a scholarship

b. Konsep
Ø Fungsi sosial : Menjelaskan, memberi informasi, dsb.

c. Prinsip

So … that is followed by an adjective or adverb or determiner (such as many, much, and


little).
For example, your hair is so wonderful that everyone feels jealous.
• So...That
• It expresses a cause and effect.

Grammar:
So + adjective/adverb + that
I was so sleepy that I couldn't keep my eyes open.

Explanation:
Such … that is followed by a noun phrase (can be singular or plural).
For example, She is such a genius girl that she always wins a science olympiad.

• Such...That

Also expresses a cause and effect.

Grammar:
such + (adjective) + NOUN + that

• Examples
Cause: It was a great movie.
Effect: I watched it several times.

It's such a great movie that I've watched it several times.


(great-adjective, movie-noun)

Cause: She is a very charming woman.


Effect: Everybody stares at her.

She is such a charming woman that everybody stares at her.


(charming-adjective, woman-noun)

Ø Menyimak dan menirukan percakapan
Ø Membaca dengan cermat untuk mengidentifikasi fungsi sosial, struktur teks dan unsur
kebahasaan percakapan tersebut.
Ø Bertanya dan mempertanyakan
Ø Membaca dengan cermat beberapa percakapan serupa dari sumber lain.

A. TENTANG SO ... THAT DAN SUCH ... THAT


So dan Such dalam bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk menekankan kualitas seseorang/sesuatu
yang bisa kita artikan "sangat". Kemudian diikuti oleh that yang maknanya, penekanan
kualitas itu menyebabkan sesuatu terjadi.That bisa kita artikan "sehingga".

Contoh :
She is so beautiful that Mr. Fuad loves her.
"Dia sangat cantik sehingga Mr. Fuad mencintainya."

B. TRIK MENGERJAKAN SOAL SO ... THAT DAN SUCH ... THAT

So ... that
So digunakan ketika :
a) hanya ada satu kata diantara titik-titik dan that.
Karena penggunaan So adalah : So+adj/adverb+that. Sehingga apabila diantara titik-titik dan
that hanya ada satu kata, itu adalah adjective atau adverb. Sehingga harus kita jawab SO
Contoh : Purbalingga is SO wonderful THAT everyone wants to go there.

b) ada dua kata di antara titik-titik dan that sedangkan kata pertama adalah salah satu dari
many,much,few, dan little (determiner).
Karena penggunaan So adalah : So+determiner+noun+that. Sehingga apabila ada dua kata
diantara titik-titik dan that, sedangkan kata pertama adalah determiner, kita harus jawab SO.
Contoh : Mr. Nugroho has SO MANY birds THAT his house is so noisy.

Such ... that


Such digunakan ketika :
a) ada artikel "a" atau "an" diantara titik-titik dan that
Karena So tidak pernah memakai artikel, sehingga apabila terdapat artikel "a" atau "an" di
antara titik-titik dan that, kita harus jawab SUCH.
Contoh : Mr. Toha has SUCH A big stomach THAT He can't go everywhere.

b) ada dua kata di antara titik-titik dan that, sedangkan kata pertama bukan salah satu dari
many,much,few, dan little (determiner).
Karena penggunaan such adalah : Such+adverb/adjective+noun+that. Sehingga apabila
terdapat dua kata di antara titik-titik dan that, dan kata pertama bukan determiner, kata
pertama itu pastilah adjective/adverb. Sehingga kita harus jawab SUCH.
Contoh : Cheetah has SUCH long legs THAT It can run fast.

Bedanya Such a ... that dan Such ... that apa?


a) Such a .... that
digunakan apabila noun sebelum that adalah tunggal/singular.
Contoh : Mr. Toha has SUCH A big stomach THAT He can't go everywhere.

Noun sebelum that adalah Stomach yang merupakan noun tunggal, sehingga harus memakai
SUCH A.

b) Such .... that


digunakan apabila noun sebelum that adalah jamak/plural.
Contoh : Cheetah has SUCH long legs THAT It can run fast.

Noun sebelum that adalah legs, yang merupakan noun jamak, sehingga harus memakai
SUCH.

C. LET'S DO THE TESTS

• Dalam soal- soal seperti TOEFL, bentuk bab cause and result clause muncul dengan tipe
soal error identification dimana kita harus memilih salah satu yang salah dari berbagari
pilihan jawaban A, B, C, atau D. Dan untuk melatih kemampuan anda mengenali tipe soal
tersebut, berikut ini error examples dari penggunaan cause and result ; so and such.

Wrong : The doctor had too many patients that he could not see them all.
Right : The doctor had so many patients that he could not see them all.

Wrong : They had so a good meal at that restaurant that they wanted to go there again.
Right : They had so good meal at that restaurant that they wanted to go there again.

Wrong : He was as rich that he owned many cars.


Right : he was so rich that he owned many cars.

Wrong : He is so forgetful as he never remember his wife's birthday.


Right : He is so forgetful that he never remember his wife's birthday.

Wrong : It was so confusing as I could not understand it.


Right : It was so confusing that I could not understand it.

Cause: My sister is very shy.


Effect: She hides behind my mother when there are strangers around.

My sister is so shy that she hides behind my mother when there are strangers around.
(shy- adjective)

Cause: The dress was wonderfully designed.


Effect: I couldn't take my eyes off it.

The dress was so wonderfully designed that I couldn't take my eyes off it.
(wonderfully- adverb)

Such...That

Also expresses a cause and effect.

Grammar:
such + (adjective) + NOUN + that

Examples

Cause: It was a great movie.


Effect: I watched it several times.

It's such a great movie that I've watched it several times.


(great-adjective, movie-noun)

Cause: She is a very charming woman.


Effect: Everybody stares at her.
She is such a charming woman that everybody stares at her.
(charming-adjective, woman-noun)

Note: such a very charming... "very" is dropped.

Attention
So...that is used with quantifiers (many, much, few, little) even if there is a noun.

I have so many friends that I never get bored.


He has so much money that he can buy whatever he wants.

Practice:
The classroom has comfortable chairs. The students find it easy to fall asleep.
Ted couldn't get to sleep last night. He was worried about the exam.
Jerry got angry. He put his fist through the wall.
I have many problems. I can use all the help you can give me.
The tornado struck with great force. It lifted automobiles off the ground.
During the summer, we had hot and humid weather. It was uncomfortable just sitting in a
chair doing nothing.
I can't figure out what this sentence says. His handwriting is illegible.
Angel has too many girlfriends. He can't remember all of their names.
It took us only ten minutes to get there. There was little traffic.
Few people bought tickets to the concert. They had to cancel it.
