Tujuan pembelajaran

Apa itu Discussion Text ?

Discussion text adalah bentuk teks yang

menyajikan pembahasan suatu masalah yang

dilematis. Masalah ini kemudian akan dibahas dari

berbagai sudut pandang baik yang pro maupun

kontra.

Structure of discussion text
Discussion text terdiri dari empat bagian yaitu:
• Statement of issue
Bagian ini menyatakan permasalahan utama yang akan dibahas.
• List of supporting points (Pros)
Bagian ini berisi poin-poin yang mendukung (pro) ide utama
permasalahan yang dibahas.
• List of contrasting points (Cons)
Sebaliknya, bagian ini berisi poin-poin yang tidak mendukung (con)
ide utama permasalahan yang dibahas.
• Conclusion/Recommendation
Bagian ini berisi saran atau rekomendasi penulis dalam menyingkapi
permasalahan yang dibahas.

National Exam: Pro and Contra

National exam becomes the hot topic in most of discussion.


Though the Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by the government
on the organization of the national exams, the controversy over

whether it is necessary to maintain the national exams (UN) has
continued. Some debates include the primary questions such as; does
the quality of Indonesian education depend on the national exam? Will
the quality of the Indonesian education system worsen without
national exam?
People who support the national exam explain that the quality
of the Indonesia education system will drop without the national

exam, so they try to defend the current system.
However, there are people who disagree with the opinion. Those
who against this national exam kept in our high school education say
that we don’t need the national exams because the quality of
education does not just depend on the national exam. Further, the Contrasting points (Cons)
national exam only measures a small portion of students’ competence
in specific subjects, and does not measure students’ competences
throughout the semester.
In fact, the national examination can still be useful as an
instrument to evaluate or detect the level of students’ cognitive Conclusion/ Recommendation
competence in several subjects, on a national scale.

School Uniform
As we know, in Indonesia all of student wear a school uniform during learning
process in school. The government obligated the student to wear the school uniform from
kindergarten until senior high school. However, school uniform has a characteristics itself
based on grade level. For example in elementary school, student should wear the red-white
uniforms, whereas in junior high school the student should wear the blue-white uniforms.
Every school also has a characteristic based on the school itself. School uniforms become a
debate issue among parents nowadays. Some of them think that school uniforms are
necessary, while others think that they are not.
Some of parents believe that wearing the school uniforms brings all lot of benefit
for the students. One of them is creating the discipline of students. The student should
wear the school uniforms based on the day that has been determined, it is teaching about
discipline for students. Furthermore, wearing uniforms in school can improve the student’s
confident. There are no differences between pupil that come from rich family or poor
family and keep the students focused on their education, not their clothes style.
On the other hand, some of parents think that school uniform bring negative
affects to student. The student cannot express their creativity through the clothes that they
wear. Besides that, their parent must spend more money to buy the school uniforms and
the clothes to their daily activities.
In conclusion, the school uniforms are still important to students. The student
will learn about discipline and focus on their education. However, to cover the
disadvantages of school uniforms such as explore their creativity and spent much money.
There are some tips to solve it. First, the student can use some accessories as long as they
are not too much. And the last is use only two kind of uniforms. It can suppress the
expenses of their parents. Especially to student that come from a poor family.
