General guideline of learning this unit


a. Through this learning unit, you will develop your skill in oral and written of how to
state suggestion. You will be directed through some situational context. This is meant at
giving you the opportunity to enhance your analytical skill and critical thinking toward
the situation around. Therefore, you are required not only mastering only for the
knowledge about the language expressin, but also the way how you have to use it in its
proper context both oral and witten. You need to set yourself patiently, and prepare
yourself of the way you think critically the situation around.

MATERI PEMBELAJARAN

1. Social function of song


Song is a good way to learn vocabulary and pronunciation. The social functions of
the song are:
1. to entertain the listener
2. to teach moral value through the lyrics of the songs
3. to express personal feeling and culture values
4. to share emotions experienced in any other way.

A song is a short musical composition with words. The purpose of a song is to


entertain the listeners
audiences.

2. Generic structure of song


The general structure of a song consists of :
1. Intro : It is the opening music of a song. It is filled with the leading music before
the vocals come in.
2. Verse : It is the content of a song. In a verse, we can find the meaning, the
feeling. the concept, and the theme of a song.
3. Chorus : It is part of a song that is repeated at least once, both lyrically and
musically. A chorus usualy plays the role as the catchy part in a song.
5. Bridge : It is the part of a song that has relatively different melody from the rest
of the song. The bridge creates the contrast and adds a richer dimension to the
song.

5. Figurative Language
Figurative means that words are used in a way that is different from the usual
meaning.The figuratives are Poetic devices. Poetic devices ae tools that a poet can
use to create rhythm and enhance the meaning, or intensity the mood or feeling. A
song (to an extent) is similar to a poem; thus, many song weriters use poetic device
to create the wanted rhythm and mood.

Some of the poetie devices often used in a song are :


 Simile : Comparing two objects using specific words or comparisoms, such
as “like” or “as”.
My heart is like an open highway
 Metaphor : Comparing two unlike things without using "like" or "as"
Today was a fairytale.
 Hyperbole: purposefuly exaggerating something for dramatic effects.
As you shoot across the sky.
 Imagery: Using words/phrases that use the five senses to form mental
images.
The taste of love is Sweet.
 Onomatopoeia : Imitating sounds with the use of words.
Ain't about the (uh) ch-ch-ching ch-ching.
Ain't about the (yeah) bl-bling-bl-bling.
 Rhyme: Referring to the similarity of ending sounds existing between two
words.
The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet.
I fell for you like a child

 Repetition: referning to the repetition of words, phrases, lines, or stanzas.
It's not about the money, money, money.
