Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS)


merupakan salah satu pusat pengembangan
kurikulum dan pembelajaran biologi yang berada
di Colorado, Amerika. BSCS telah menghasilkan
berbagai dokumen/produk tekait pembelajaran
biologi antara lain; kurikulum, buku pedoman
guru, guru pedoman siswa, bahasan topik-topik
baru, laporan hasil penelitian pendidikan biologi
dan pelatihan guru pendidikan biologi.
BSCS menggunakan empat pendekatan
dalam pembelajaran biologi yaitu
ecological approach, inquiry approach,

menengah (SMP dan SMA), molecular

1. Ecological approach

Ecological approach atau pendekatan ekologi


adalah perspektif yang mempelajari
perkembangan organisme dengan
memperhatikan berbagai faktor lingkungan yang
ada." Pendekatan ini memandang manusia
sebagai bagian dari suatu sistem. Sehingga
manusia dan lingkungannya akan senantiasa
berkaitan.
2. inquiry approach

Inquiry approach atau Pendekatan Inquiry Based


Learning adalah suatu pendekatan yang
digunakan dan mengacu pada suatu cara untuk
mempertanyakan, mencari pengetahuan
(informasi), atau mempelajari suatu gejala.
Pembelajaran dengan pendekatan IBL selalu
mengusahakan agar siswa selalu aktif secara
mental maupun fisik.
3. molecular approach

Molecular approach atau pendekatan molekular


adalah suatu pendekatan yang mengeksplorasi
konsep dasar biologi melalui perspektif molekul
dan termasuk ilmu pengetahuan modern dan
kemajuan terbaru dalam biologi molekuler. Siswa
diajak menggunakan kemampuan intelektualnya
dalam proses penyelidikan yang dirancang
untuk mengintegrasikan biologi dan prinsip-
prinsip kimia.
4. human approach

Human approach merupakan pendekatan


pembelajaran Biologi yang berupaya untuk
menyadarkan bahwa manusia memiliki peran
yang sangat penting di alam semesta. Manusia
diajarkan dan dibiasakan untuk berpikir
bagaimana caranya melestarikan alam sehingga
kekayaan alam yang ada tidak habis misalnya
dengan konservasi hewan dan koonservasi
tumbuhan.
