PREFACE
First of all, lets praise to Allah SWT who has giving me a chance to finish this writer
timely, and i would like to say thank you to Mrs. Eriza as the lecturer who always have time
to teach us till we have a lot of knowledge about how to practice english well.

This assignment is one of English task who explain about lines and angles in civil
engineering. I realized this paper it’s not perfect, but i hope it will be useful for us. Critics and
suggestion needed for me to make this paper more better.

I hope we as Student of Polytechnic of Sriwijaya can work professionally by using

lines and angles for civil engineering, Thank you.

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND

In the civil engineering, we have found lines and angles that through various
lessons, including the science of measuring land many implemented the system of
polygon in surveying.
The science of measuring land is part of the science of geodesy which learn
how to describe the state of a physical partially or a whole the surface of the earth for
determining the position of relative or absolute points on the surface of the ground on
top of it or underneath in fulfilling their need mapping and the determination of the
relative position an area.
In in the process mapping there are the measurement of a basic framework a
horizontal (the measurement of horizontal to get the distance, angles, and coordinate
horizontal between points measured above the earth) and measurement of a basic
framework vertically (the measurement of erect vertical to get the distance, angles,
and coordinate erect between points measured and the measurement of points detail).
Points that have been acquired a fundamental framework horizontal and
vertical these which will form a a polygon that can be seen with the lines connecting
the points .With the methods a polygon , position point which has not known the
coordinates determined from point that which is already known the coordinates by
measuring all distance and angles is in a polygon .In making a map required
measurements in the field , such measurement can be done by system a polygon that
continued to the measurement of detail situation .

1.2 PROBLEMS FORMULATION
 What is the definition of polygon?
 When we implemented polygon in civil engineering?
 How to calculate the angle of polygon

1.3 BENEFIT
 To determine the defnition of polygon
 To explain the type of polygon
 To determine how to calculate the angle of polygon

DISCUSSION

2.1. THE DEFINITION OF POLYGON

The word ‘polygon’ is a Greek word. “Poly” means many and “gon” means
angles. There are some many definition of polygon, such as :

 A two dimensional object and a closed figure

 Made up of three or more straight line segments
 The sides do not cross each other
 There are exactly two sides that meet at a vertex

Polygon consist of two sides of angle, there are interior angle and exterior
angle. Interior angle is an ange formed by two adjencent sides inside the polygon. And
exterior angle is an angle formed by two adjencent sides outside of the polygon.

2.2 THE TYPES OF POLYGON

Here are some of the types of polygon. Among other :

• Equiangular Polygon: a polygon in which all of the angles are equal

• Equilateral Polygon: a polygon in which all of the sides are the same length

• Regular Polygon: a polygon where all the angles are equal and all of the sides
are the same length. They are both equilateral and equiangular.

• Convex Polygon : a polygon whose each of the interior angle measures less than
180°.

• If one or more than one angle in a polygon measures more than 180° then it is
known as Concave Polygon. (Think: concave has a "cave" in it)

2.3 INTERIOR ANGLES OF POLYGON

2.4 EXTERIOR ANGLES OF POLYGON

An exterior angle of a regular polygon is formed by extending one side of the polygon

Angle CDY is an exterior angle to angle CDE

Exterior Angle + Interior Angle of a regular polygon = 1800

No matter what type of polygon we have, the sum of the exterior angles is
ALWAYS equal to 360º.

2.5 CALCULATE THE VALUE OF THE UNKNOWN ANGLES

Jadi, x = 145

75 + 110 + 115 + 95 + x = 540

395 + x = 540

x = 145

Sum of exterior angles is 360°

(4x – 12) + 60+ (3x + 13) + 65 + 54+ 68 = 360
7x + 248 = 360
– 248 – 248
7x = 112
x = 16

CLOSING

3.1 CONCLUSION
Lines and angles are important component in each lesson in civil engineering.
And also polygon is important for use on the surveying. The word ‘polygon’ is a
Greek word. “Poly” means many and “gon” means angles. Polygon consist of two
sides of angle, there are interior angle and exterior angle. And there are five types of
polygon, such as : Equiangular Polygon, Equilateral Polygon, Regular Polygon,
Convex Polygon, and concave polygon.
