Effects of learner interaction with learning dashboards on academic performance in


an elearning environment

Dalam jurnal penelitian yang ditulis oleh Mehmet Kokoç & Arif Altun dengan judul
Effects of learner interaction with learning dashboards on academic performance in
an elearning environment, penulis melihat adanya dashboard pembelajaran e-learning
sebagai gambaran prediksi bagi kinerja penyedia pembelajaran e-learning. Dashboard
pembelajaran yang bersifat memberi petunjuk, dikembangkan dalam lingkungan
pembelajaran sebagai alat analisis pembelajaran. Istilah dasbor pembelajaran dapat
didefinisikan sebagai alat analisis pembelajaran yang memberikan pemantauan
pelaksanaan pembelajaran online dengan indikator kinerja menggunakan teknik
visualisasi data.
Obyek penelitian adalah peserta e-learning sebanyak 126 mahasiswa studi jaringan
komputer dan komunikasi yang dilaksanakan selama 12 minggu. Data penelitian
dikumpulkan dan dianalisis dengan teknik data mining. Hasil analisis cluster di
kelompokan menjadi 4 golongan sesuai pola perilaku interaksi terhadap dashboard
pembelajaran. Dalam analisis prediktif memberikan efek tertentu pada kinerja
akademik. Secara keseluruhan hasil penelitian penggunaan dashboard pembelajaran
preskriptif dapat diterapkan dalam lingkungan e-learning sebagai alat bantu
pembelajaran karena dapat meningkatkan kinerja peserta pembelajaran.
Hasil observasi penulis ternyata belum pernah ada penerapan dashboard pembelajaran
e-learning pada Ditjen Binapenta dan PKK Kemnaker RI. Relevansi sample jurnal
dengan tesis penelitian ini adalah berkaitan dengan e-learning dan implementasinya
dashboard pembelajaran e-learning dapat dijadikan visualisasi pengukuran kinerja
pelaksanaan e-learning sehingga dapat memonitor dan memprediksi langkah selanjutnya
terhadap proses e-learning dari sisi penyelenggara maupun dari peserta.

This study aims to investigate learners’ interaction with the learning dashboards
as a predictor outcome of an online learning experience and, to what extent this
interaction data could be used to predict and/or provide guidance through their
academic performance. For this purpose, a prescriptive learning dashboard
integrated into an e-learning environment was developed as a learning analytics
tool. The participants consisted of 126 higher education students enrolled in the
12-week Computer Networks and Communication course. Data gathered through logs and
academic performances of learners were analysed with data mining techniques. The
result of cluster analysis, based on interaction with the prescriptive learning
dashboard, showed that learners were separated into four groups according to their
behavioural patterns. A similar pattern appears when the related clusters are
profiled based on the academic performances. At predictive analysis, the study
indicates that the interaction with prescriptive learning dashboard had certain
effects on academic performance of learners significantly and artificial neural
networks algorithm yielded the best performance for predicting academic
performance. The results support that the usage prescriptive learning dashboards
can be applied in online courses as an instructional aid to improve performance of
learners and learning design in e-learning environments.
