I used to be apathetic towards my social environment. I tended to ignore my

surroundings, especially as a student who came from outside the city and was studying
in the capital. I was so focused on my own needs and desires that I forgot that wherever
I was, I was always part of the community.
When I visited the Tunas Melati Muhammadiyah orphanage, I met five elementary
school children who were accompanied by Mr. Aji (one of the caregivers). The children
were so enthusiastic and greeted us with happy faces. "Assalamualaikum, sir," said the
children in the orphanage. "Walaikumsalam, dear," I replied with a smile. During the
interview, the children happily answered our questions and thanked us that we visited
them.
From that experience, I felt that my heart was starting to open up to providing
assistance to those who were less fortunate. I felt ashamed of myself for being too
individualistic and apathetic as a member of society. When I saw the smiles and happy
faces of the orphanage children, I felt a happiness that was difficult to express. It is true
that the saying "You reap what you sow" applies; if your heart intends to share joy and
kindness, that joy and kindness will also return to you.
Lastly, concerning Social Emotional Learning Competence, through this donation
activity, I feel that my social awareness, especially empathy towards others, are starting
to develop. I often feel concerned when I see people who are less fortunate and need
help, but I don't always have the opportunity to help because I am focused too much on
myself. The donation project has opened my heart as a teacher that empathy is a crucial
feeling that must be sharpened and followed by compassion in the form of real actions.
Only by doing so, kindness and harmonious relationships can be created between
individuals.

Giving charity to the children at the Muhammadiyah Tunas Melati Orphanage in

Pontianak was a very satisfying experience for me. As I saw their happy and enthusiastic
faces, I felt very moved and grateful to be able to make a positive contribution to their
lives. I believe that giving charity is an act of kindness that not only helps fulfill their basic
needs, but also provides them with happiness and hope for a better future. However,
behind the happiness that I felt, I also felt sad and concerned, realizing that there are still
many other children out there who need our help and attention. I am aware that poverty
and injustice are still major problems in our society, and it makes me feel called to help
those in need. Therefore, I hope that my act of giving charity to the children at the
Muhammadiyah Tunas Melati Orphanage can inspire others to also help others and make
this world a better place for everyone. I believe that if we all pay attention to and help
those in need, we can create a great positive change in society and create a better future
for everyone.

Laura Chesy

The foundation of Indonesia's state is Pancasila. Pancasila embodies basic values

as a guide for how Indonesian society behaves towards God and towards one another.
On this occasion, I am grateful for the initiative taken by the KSE course, which has given
us, prospective educators, the opportunity to share as part of our midterm assignment.
One of our targets this time is an orphanage. When sharing with the children in the
orphanage, I felt a sense of sympathy and empathy towards them, knowing that they are
great and strong children, but some of them may be orphans, or even double orphans.
Some of them were very young when they were entrusted to the orphanage by their
relatives. From this, I realized that they need the spirit and touch of love that they may not
be able to get from their parents or close family members. I realized that sharing does not
necessarily require us to be wealthy or powerful. Even in our own shortcomings, we can
still pay attention to our less fortunate community. In addition to the physical things we
share, we can also provide emotional support and let them know that there are still many
people out there who care and love these children
Ranisa Immawati, P. M.

The experience I had when I visited one of the orphanages in Pontianak with some
of my friends was quite remarkable. It was my first time seeing an orphanage that was
inhabited by several children and was very simple, yet comfortable and welcoming. I felt
very happy when we entered the room and saw the children's joyful faces. Sometimes,
when I see the conditions of the children living in the orphanage, I feel touched and sad
because they do not have the same opportunities as other children. However, this feeling
can drive me to help them by giving donations or other contributions to meet their needs.
My experience with my friends at the orphanage taught me a valuable lesson about the
importance of empathy, compassion, and solidarity in helping those in need. By providing
assistance to orphaned children, we can help them meet their daily needs and give them
the opportunity to achieve their dreams and goals. When we feel compelled to help
orphaned children, we have done something meaningful and positive for society. Every
contribution, no matter how small, can have a significant impact on those in need.
Hopefully, my experience with my friends can inspire many people to help others.
Ryan Cipta Julianda:

After performing a real action of visiting the Muhammadiyah Tunas Melati

orphanage, the five of us felt very grateful because we still have parents, at least.
Although I am currently in the position of being an orphaned child, I feel privileged
because I still have my mother as my emotional support system in life. When we met the
orphans at the orphanage, I felt a kind of happiness that is difficult to describe here. This
feeling may be a real manifestation of my empathy and sympathy towards children who
no longer have their parents. I think that doing this has made me more open in terms of
how I view what I have achieved and the accomplishments I have made. All this time, I
have been doing it because of my mother who is still alive. The burning spirit to create
and work hard apparently grew from my real act of dedication as the first male child
replacing the figure of my late father. Overall, I feel very fortunate to have been able to
take this real action towards orphans and children without parents at the orphanage we
visited today. Of course, the items we gave can be useful for their needs, especially for
school supplies as we provided bags, writing tools, and used clothes that are still in good
condition for their daily needs. This is my reflection on the experience.
