What is bullying?
According to the KBBI, bullying is the act of violently which can be
interpreted as disturbing, disturbing continuously and troubling. So bullying is a
pattern of behavior, not a one-off incident. Children who bully usually come from a
higher social status or position of power, such as children who are bigger, stronger, or
considered popular so they can abuse their position
We can usually identify bullying through the following three characteristics:
It is intentional (to hurt), it happens repeatedly, and there is a power differential.
A bully intends to cause pain to their victim, whether physical harm or hurtful words
or behavior, and does so repeatedly and occurs because the bully has more power than
the victim's position. Boys are more likely to be physically bullied, while girls are
more likely to be psychologically bullied, although the two types certainly tend to be
interconnected.
Bullying can be verbal abuse, physical abuse, or even cyber bullying through
social media. Bullying can also cause problems such as depression, anxiety, and even
lead to suicide in victims. One of the things we need to understand is that everyone
deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of our differences. Because of their
differences in appearance, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or even their inability to
understand and deal with certain social situations. Thus, it is time for all of us to stand
together against this behavior.
It is important to teach values such as empathy, tolerance and respect for
differences to our teens. Education at school and at home should focus on building
emotional and social intelligence so that teens can better understand the feelings and
experiences of others.
The development of digital technology, especially smartphones, which makes
society more connected thr
ough technology, is vulnerable to cyber bullying and has become a deepening
problem. Toxic messages, fake news, or the spread of personal information can
destroy a person's life in an instant. Thus, we need to educate teenagers about online
etiquette and the consequences of cyberbullying
So what can we do?
First, identify the scope of bullying and/or violence:
a. Bullying and/or violence that occurs within the school environment
b. Bullying and/or violence that occurs outside the school location that is still
within school activities, for example, education unit activities such as
internships, field trips, and/or jamborees (such as the current Jumbara
activity)
c. Bullying and/or violence involving more than one education unit
Second, establish special teams in schools that will be tasked with handling
cases, guided by ministerial policies related to the prevention and handling of
violence in the school environment as well as facilitating and coordinating if bullying
and/or acts of violence will be reported to law enforcement officials.
We can be a good listener, a loyal friend, or accompany them to seek help
from a mental health professional if needed. It is also important to change our view of
power. The most courageous act is not to have power over others, but to speak up and
act with kindness. That is the true mark of leadership and courage.
Let's fight bullying together and create a better world for all teenagers.
Thus my speech, please apologize if there are words that are less pleasing, May Allah
SWT, the Lord of the Universe make it easy and strong for us to face and eradicate
bullying behavior. That's all and thank you.
