◉ Mampu menjelaskan hubungan atom dengan sifat material

Mengapa Mempelajari Struktur
Atom dan Ikatan Antar Atom?
Karena dengan memiliki pemahaman tentang struktur atom dan
jenis ikatan antar atom dalam padatan memungkinkan kita untuk
menjelaskan sifat material pada beberapa kasus.

Contoh:
Karbon yang mungkin terkandung dalam Grafit & Berlian. Grafit
memiliki sifat lunak & berminyak, sedangkan Berlian memiliki sifat
yang sangat keras. Perbedaan sifat material tersebut dapat
diketahui secara langsung dari jenis ikatan antar atom.

Atom merupakan bagian yang sangat kecil dari suatu
unsur yang masih memiliki sifat unsur tersebut.
Beberapa sifat penting dari bahan padat (solid materials)
bergantung pada susunan atom geometris, dan juga
interaksi yang ada di antara atom atau molekul
penyusunnya.

DASAR
Setiap atom terdiri dari inti (nucleus) yang sangat kecil yang
terdiri dari proton (muatan positif) dan neutron (netral), yang
dikelilingi oleh elektron (muatan negatif) yang bergerak.

 NOMOR ATOM DAN MASSA ATOM
Nomor Atom
Setiap unsur kimia dicirikan oleh nomor
atom, yaitu jumlah proton dalam nucleus.
Massa Atom
Atom-atom suatu unsur dapat mempunyai
nomor massa yang berbeda karena jumlah
neutron dalam atom tersebut berbeda.
Atom-atom dari unsur yang sama tetapi
mempunyai nomor massa yang berbeda
disebut isotop.
satuan massa atom (sma) dapat digunakan
untuk menghitung berat atom
Berat atom suatu unsur dapat ditentukan
berdasarkan smu per atom atau massa per mol
material: 1 smu/atom (molekul) = 1 gr/mol
1 mol = 6,023 x 1023 (bilangan Avogadro)

 Konfigurasi Elektron berdasarkan Kulit / Lintasan Elektron:
Model Atom Niels Bohr
Dengan demikian dapat ditulis:
Lintasan pertama  kulit K  n = 1
Lintasan kedua  kulit L  n = 2
Lintasan ketiga  kulit M  n = 3
,dan seterusnya
• Model atom Bohr merupakan model atom yang diajukan
oleh ilmuwan Niels Bohr pada tahun 1913.
• Teorinya mengenai atom berdasarkan analisis spektrum
atom.
• Dalam atom terdapat lintasan-lintasan tertentu yang disebut
kulit atom, yaitu tempat bagi elektron-elektron untuk
mengorbit inti tanpa disertai pemancaran atau penyerapan
energi.
• Kulit atom adalah orbit berbentuk lingkaran dengan jari-jari
tertentu.
• Tiap kulit dinyatakan dengan lambang K, L, M, N, dan
seterusnya.
• Masing-masing lintasan ditandai dengan satu bilangan
kuantum utama (n) yang dimulai dari 1,2,3,4, dan
seterusnya.
• Elektron hanya berada pada lintasan-lintasan yang
diperbolehkan sesuai dengan tingkat energinya masing-
masing.
• Pada keadaan (tingkat dasar), elektron menempati lintasan
dengan tingkat energi terendah.
• Elektron tidak boleh berada di antara dua lintasan.
• Elektron dapat berpindah dari satu kulit ke kulit lain dengan
disertai pelepasan atau penyerapan energi.
• Pelepasan energi terjadi ketika electron berpindah dari
satu kulit ke kulit yang lebih dalam misal dari L ke K.
• Sebaliknya, penyerapan energi akan terjadi ketika elektron
berpindah dari satu kulit ke kulit yang lebih luar misalnya
dari K ke L.

Berdasarkan ketentuan itu maka:
• Konfigurasi elektron merupakan susunan elektron
dalam atom berdasarkan tingkat energi atau kulit.
• Secara umum konfigurasi elektron dapat ditentukan
dengan dua model yaitu model atom Bohr dan
model atom mekanika kuantum.
• Pada model atom Bohr, semakin besar nomor kulit
akan semakin besar pula ruang cakupannya untuk
menampung elektron. Dengan kata lain, jumlah
elektron yang dapat berada di kulit L akan lebih
besar daripada di kulit K.
• Jumlah maksimum elektron yang dapat ditampung
oleh masing-masing kulit mengikuti persamaan
berikut:

Lintasan pertama  kulit K  n = 1 maksimum = 2(1)2 = 2 elektron

Lintasan kedua  kulit L  n = 2 maksimum = 2(2)2 = 8 elektron
Lintasan ketiga  kulit M  n = 3  maksimum = 2(3)2 = 18 elektron

Lintasan keempat kulit N  n = 4  maksimum = 2(4)2 = 32 elektron
 Tips menuliskan konfigurasi elektron untuk unsur-unsur
yang berada pada golongan utama
1. Mulai dari lintasan yang paling dekat dengan inti yaitu kulit K.
2. Kulit paling luar hanya boleh ditempati maksimal 8 elektron.
3. Isi penuh sebanyak mungkin kulit berdasarkan daya tampungnya dan hitung elektron
yang tersisa.
4. Jika sisa elektron kurang dari 32, maka kulit berikutnya diisi dengan 18 elektron.
5. Jika sisa elektron kurang dari 18, maka kulit berikutnya diisi dengan 8 elektron.
6. Jika sisa elektron kurang dari 8, maka elektron tersebut ditempatkan pada kulit
berikutnya dan merupakan kulit terluar.

sifat elektron yaitu sebagai gelombang dan sebagai partikel
• Teorinya mengenai atom berdasarkan analisis spektrum
atom.
• Dalam atom terdapat lintasan-lintasan tertentu yang disebut
kulit atom, yaitu tempat bagi elektron-elektron untuk
mengorbit inti tanpa disertai pemancaran atau penyerapan
energi.
