 DEFINISI
Baja adalah paduan besi dan karbon yang kandungan
karbonnya berkisar 0.2% hingga 2% (dengan
kandungan karbon yang lebih tinggi, bahan tersebut
didefinisikan sebagai besi cor). Sejauh ini merupakan
bahan yang paling banyak digunakan untuk
membangun infrastruktur dan industri dunia, bahan ini
digunakan untuk membuat segala sesuatu mulai dari
jarum jahit hingga tanker minyak.
 KLASIFIKASI BAJA
Beberapa cara mengklasifikasikan baja, antara lain:

a. Menurut cara pembuatannya: baja Bessemer, baja Siemens-Martin (Open

hearth), baja listrik, dan lainnya.
b. Menurut penggunaannya: baja konstruksi, baja mesin, baja pegas, baja ketel,
baja. perkakas, dan lainnya.
c. Menurut kekuatannya: baja kekuatan Iunak, baja kekuatan tinggi
d. Menurut struktur mikronya: baja eutektoid, baja hypoeutektoid, baja
hypereutektoid, baja austenitik, baja ferritik, baja martensitik dan lainnya.
e. Menurut komposisi kimianya: baja karbon, baja paduan rendah, baja paduan
tinggi, dan lainnya.
