ABSTRACT
Treatment of diabetic ulcers is intended to accelerate the wound healing process. The
inappropiate dressing techniques topical antibiotics and wound cleaning solution can inhibit
wound healing process. Treatment of diabetic ulcers can use topical agents that are antibiotic
and antibacterial. Metronidazole is a synthetic antibacterial and antiprotozoal nitroimidazoi
derivatives which have bactericidal, amebisid and trikomonosid activities. This study aim to
determine the effect of metronidazole tablets toward development diabetic ulcers healing.
This research used pre experiment design with one group pretest - posttest design.
Sample of 13 diabetic ulcers patients were taken Consecutive sampling. The process of
wound healing was assessed using a scale of Bates-Jansen Wound Assessment Tool (BWAT)
by comparing scores before and after wounds treatment for 6 days. Data analysis using
Paired sample t-test.
This results the average score of Bates-Jansen diabetic ulcer wound care interventions
before using metronidazole tablets is 42, and the average after intervention is 38,92. The
analysis showed there is effect of metronidazole tablets toward diabetic ulcers healing at Dr.
H. Soewondo Kendal hospital, with = 0,001 ( < ; = 0.05).
This conclusion research is significant effect of metronidazole tablets toward
development diabetic ulcer healing. Further research compared topical agents metronidazole
tablets with other topical agents to find the most effective topical agent to wound diabetic
ulcer healing.
