B. Tujuan Pembelajaran
Setelah mengikuti serangkaian kegiatan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan
scientific peserta didik dapat mengidentifikasi dan membandingkan fungsi
sosial, struktur teks dan unsur kebahasaan beberapa teks khusus dalam bentuk
greeting card terkait dengan hari-hari spesial, kemudian peserta didik mampu
menulis ungkapan yang tepat untuk teks khusus greeting card dan mampu
menyusun teks khusus greeting card terkait hari-hari spesial dengan disiplin,
jujur, rasa tanggung jawab serta dapat bekerja sama.
C. MATERI PEMBELAJARAN
GREETING CARD
I. SOCIAL FUNCTION
Texts can be classified and organised in a multitude of ways everyday, formal,
entertaining and information. (Knap, 1947) Greeting card is one of short functional
text. Short Functional Text is a short text that has particular meaning and purpose, and
can be used in our daily life. It may be in the form of prohibition, invitation, greeting
cards, short message, shopping list, notice, announcement, etc.

Definition
Greeting card is a card that you send to someone on their birthday or on a special
occasion or holiday. Examples of greeting cards are birthday cards, Christmas,
graduations and anniversaries.

Greeting cards dibagi dalam beberapa jenis seperti birthday card yang berisi
ucapan selamat ulang tahun, weeding card yang berisi ucapan pernikahan, wedding
anniversary card yang berisi ucapan ulang tahun pernikahan, Lebaran card yang berisi
ucapan lebaran yang sering disebut sebahgai kartu ucapan lebaran, dan congratulation
cards yang biasanya berisi ucapan selamat atas kesuksesan seseorang.

Contoh kartu ucapan bahasa Inggris berikut ditulis untuk keperluan yang berbeda.
Sebagai bentuk pemahaman greeting card dalam langkah mempelajari fungtional text.

Fungsi kartu ucapan dibedakan menjadi 2 macam.

1. Fungsi pertama kartu ucapan (greeting card) adalah untuk menyatakan ucapan
selamat (congratulation) terkait hari-hari spesial seperti, kartu ucapan pernikahan
(wedding day) , hari ulang tahun (birthday card), hari libur.. Sebagai bentuk rasa
sosial, kita perlu ikut berbahagia karena ada orang lain yang kita kenal sedang
merasa berbahagia.

2. Fungsi kedua kartu ucapan bahasa ingggris biasanya ditujukan dalam rangka ikut
menunjukkan rasa simpati atau perhatian tehadap peristiwa penting seperti
menyampaikan selamat atas kesuksesan seseorang atau yang tidak menyenangkan
yang sedang dialami oleh seseorang yang kita kenal, misalnya ucapan “cepat
sembuh” terhadap teman yang sedang sakit.

PURPOSES

The purpose of of greeting card is to congratulate, to wish or to show sympathy for


someone or to congratulate someone achievement in order to build and maintain
relationship.

Tujuan dari greeting card adalah untuk menyampaikan selamat atau simpati kepada
seseorang sesuai konteks dalam kaitannya untuk menjaga hubungan.
II. GENERIC STUCTURES

1. Receiver

To whom the greeting is sent for. Write down the name of receiver if it is needed.

2. Body

The body of greeting card usually consists of interesting quote and expressions

Quote : these words related to the activity.

Picture : the greeting is inserted with interesting picture.

Expression : using Congratulation Expression or Sympathy Expression.

3. Sender

It is better to write down the sender of the greeting card.

III. UNSUR KEBAHASAAN

There are some Expressions can be used in greeting card, such as:

Congratulations on your newly born baby!

Happy Birthday!

Congratulation on your wedding!

Happy New Year!

Happy Lebaran Day!

Happy Iedul Fitr!

Merry Christmas!

Secara harafiah, may mempunyai arti “boleh, mungkin”. Meskipun demikian, dalam
konteks kartu ucapan, kata ini memeiliki arti "semoga". Kata may selalu diletakkan di
awal kalimat, sebelum harapan yang diungkapkan. Contohnya antara lain May this year
bring you a lot of happiness and luck (semoga tahun ini memberikanmu banyak
kebahagiaan dan keberuntungan).

Wish

Fungsi kata wish dalam kartu ucapan sama dengan kata may, yaitu untuk menyatakan
sebuah pengharapan. Selain itu, kata wish sebagai kata benda (noun) memiliki arti
"harapan". Contohnya adalah Wish you all a very happy and fun filled New
Year (semoga tahun barumu menyenangkan).

Joy

Joy mempunyai arti “kegembiraan, keriangan” yang berbentuk kata benda (noun). Bisa
ditemukan di setiap kartu ucapan seperti kartu ucapan Natal. Contohnya antara
lain Wish you lots of love, joy, happiness. Merry x-mas (Semoga kamu dilimpahi banyak
cinta, kegembiraan, dan kebahagiaan. Selamat Natal).

Peaceful and Blessed

Peaceful mempunyai arti “tenang, damai” dan berbentuk kata sifat (adjective). Kata
benda dari peacefuladalah peace, yang memiliki arti perdamaian. Sementara
itu, blessed mempunyai arti “diberkahi” sebagai kata sifat, dengan bless sebagai kata
bendanya yang memiliki arti berkat. Contohnya adalah Wishing you a peaceful and
blessed Chinese New Year (Semoga tahun baru imlekmu dilimpahi kedamaian dan
keberkatan).

Forgiveness
Forgiveness mempunyai arti pengampunan yang biasa berbentuk kata benda (noun).
Akan tetapi, sebagai kata kerja, forgive mempunyai arti memaafkan. Ungkapan ini
paling sering ditemukan di kartu ucapan Idul Fitri. Contohnya adalah When a mistaken
turn forgiveness.

Apologize

Apologize mempunyai arti “meminta maaf” yang biasa berbentuk kata kerja (verb).
Sama seperti forgiveness, ungkapan ini juga sering ditemukan dalam kartu ucapan Idul
Fitri. Contohnya adalah I would to apologize for all that I’ve done.

Gratitude

Gratitude mempunyai arti terima kasih yang berbentuk noun (kata benda). Biasanya kita
dapat menemukan kata ini dalam kartu ucapan Hari Ibu. Contohnya adalah I hope you
feel every day how grateful I am for you and for all you do.

TENSES

The simple present tense in English is used to describe an action that is regular, true or
normal.

We use the present tense:

1. For repeated or regular actions in the present time period.

 I take the train to the office.


 The train to Berlin leaves every hour.

 John sleeps eight hours every night during the week.

2. For facts.

 The President of The USA lives in The White House.


 A dog has four legs.

 We come from Switzerland.


3. For habits.

 I get up early every day.


 Carol brushes her teeth twice a day.

 They travel to their country house every weekend.

4. For things that are always / generally true.

 It rains a lot in winter.


 The Queen of England lives in Buckingham Palace.

 They speak English at work

PERSONAL PRONOUNS

Pronouns replace nouns. A different pronoun is required depending on two elements:


the noun being replaced and the function that noun has in the sentence. In English, pronouns
only take the gender of the noun they replace in the 3rd person singular form. The 2nd person
plural pronouns are identical to the 2nd person singular pronouns except for the reflexive
pronoun.

SUBJECT PRONOUNS

Subject pronouns replace nouns that are the subject of their clause. In the 3rd person,
subject pronouns are often used to avoid repetition of the subject's name.

EXAMPLES

I am 16.

You seem lost.

Jim is angry, and he wants Sally to apologize.

OBJECT PRONOUNS

Object pronouns are used to replace nouns that are the direct or indirect object of a
clause.

EXAMPLES

Give the book to me.

The teacher wants to talk to you.

Jake is hurt because Bill hit him.

POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES (DETERMINERS)

Possessive adjectives are not pronouns, but rather determiners. It is useful to learn them
at the same time as pronouns, however, because they are similar in form to the
possessive pronouns. Possessive adjectives function as adjectives, so they appear before
the noun they modify. They do not replace a noun as pronouns do.

EXAMPLES
Did mother find my shoes?

Mrs. Baker wants to see your homework.

Can Jake bring over his baseball cards?

POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS

Possessive pronouns replace possessive nouns as either the subject or the object of a
clause. Because the noun being replaced doesn't appear in the sentence, it must be clear
from the context.

EXAMPLES

This bag is mine.

Yours is not blue.

That bag looks like his.
