Abstract
Diabetes is metabolic disorder with hiperglicemia. The amount of Diabetic patient in
Indonesia will increase rapidly without suitable treatment. High level of blood glucose will trigger
oxidative stress. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of lemongrass on
oxidative stress response that was showed by serum and hepatic Total antioxidant Capacity and
Malondialdehyde level. Thirty male wistar rats were divided into five groups. K1 is normal group,
K2 is normal goup with lemongrass treatment, K3 is diabetic control STZ induced rat , K4 is
diabetic rat with glibenklamide treatment and K5 is Diabetic rat with 3.6 ml/200 gr body weight
lemongrass treatment. The result showed that lemongrass reduced blood glucose level and serum
MDA level as well as hepatic MDA level, and increased serum and hepaticTotal Antioxidant
Status.
