(INTRODUCTION)
mengisolasi daerah lost circulation.

menurunkan densitas. Contohnya, bentonite, pozzolan, dan lain sebagainya.
Sedangkan untuk menaikkan densitas digunakan weighting agent, contohnya
barite.
1.7 Discussion
In this experiment the making of a cement suspension is carried out to
calculate its density and after that it is used in making sample molds which
are useful in compressive strength and shear bond strength testing. The
density value in the drilling cement is very influential in the drilling process
itself. Therefore, it is important to control the density of the cement
suspension so that the desired results are achieved.
The cement density is the ratio of the total weight of the cement slurry,
the mixing water, and the additives used, to the total volume of cement
powder, water, and additives used (Huda et al., 2018). In this experiment,
bentonite was used as a drilling cement additive. Bentonite has a function to
reduce the density of cement classified as additive extender.
Before conducting a density test with mud balance, the first thing to do
is prepare a two-sample cement suspension. Sample 1 (standard cement) and
sample 2 (standard cement + bentonite). Cement suspension is made using a
cement mixer within a predetermined time limit. After the cement suspension
is complete, proceed with the density testing using the previously calibrated
mud balance.
Accuracy in reading the scale shown by nuvo glass on mud balance is
very important, this is because if there is an error in reading the scale, the
results obtained are not optimal. Density testing was carried out for both
cement samples. The measurement results of SGS Sample 1 (standard
cement) with mud balance = 12.41 ppg and for sample 2 (standard cement +
20
bentonite) the SGS = 12.7 ppg. Then for mathematical measurements with
the formula that has been given the results, namely sample 1 (standard
cement) = 14.47 ppg and sample 2 (standard cement + bentonite) = 14.51
ppg.
From the results of testing the density with mud balance and
mathematically, the density of the cement has increased which is not too
large, but quite surprising, because the additive bentonite that has been
added should function to reduce the density of the drilling cement (extender).
This could have happened considering that the quality of bentonite used in
this experiment was not good enough and there were human errors such as,
weighing of materials for making cement suspension, unbalanced mud
balance, not calibrating the tool properly, part of the mud balance cup which
is not cleaned properly resulting in contamination, lack of accuracy when
inserting the cement mixture into the cup mixer so that the mass is reduced,
and damage to the tools used are also very influential factors.
After completing the density test, proceed with making sample molds, at
this stage practice making two kinds of sample molds, namely cylindrical and
cubic sample molds. Before pouring the cement suspension into the mold,
grease is first applied to the cubic sample mold to make it easier for the
cement sample to come out of the mold. Grease greasing does not need to be
done on a cylindrical sample mold, because when testing compressive and
shear bond strength, the cylinder sample does not need to be removed from
the mold. Sample 1 (standard cement) is used for making cubic sample molds
and sample 2 (standard cement + bentonite) in making cylindrical samples.
Water Cement Ratio (WCR) is the ratio between the volume of water
mixed with cement powder at the time of making the cement. The WCR
obtained in this experiment is 60% for sample 1 (standard cement) and 59%
for sample 2 (standard cement + bentonite). WCR value should not be more
than the maximum limit and should not be less than the minimum limit,
because it will affect the density of cement, where if the added water is smaller
than the minimum limit, the density of the cement will rise which can cause
21
considerable friction in the annulus when the cement pumped, eventually this
will increase the pressure in the annulus and if the formation is not able to
hold it then the formation will break.
In general, WCR ranges from 0.4-0.6 to make conventional cement. The
limit of the amount of water in a cement suspension is defined as the minimum
and maximum water content. The amount of water that is too little will make
pumping difficult, whereas if too much will reduce the strength of the cement
due to increased cement permeability. So, the water content contained in a
cement suspension must be between the minimum and maximum levels. The
following are WCR recommended by API.

DENSITAS (ppg)
Based on the table and graph above, it can be seen that the WCR affects
the density, the sample used with WCR of 59% and 60% will make the density
value higher, which means that the WCR has a large effect on the density of
the cement.
The density of the cement suspension is very influential on the
hydrostatic pressure of the cement in the wellbore. If the formation is not able
to withstand the pressure, it will cause the formation to break, resulting in
lost circulation (Negara & Hamid, 2016). If the hydrostatic pressure is less
than the formation pressure, blow out, kick, and collapse will occur. Density
is directly proportional to hydrostatic pressure. The density value obtained
from this experiment is quite large and there are differences in the results of
measurements with mud balance and measurements using a formula. So the
inaccuracy caused by various factors, for sample 1 (standard cement), which
is 14.2% and sample 2 (standard cement + bentonite) is 12.47%.
The field application for this experiment is to control the density of the
cement suspension so that it has a value that is neither too high nor too low.
In addition, it is also used to determine the use of cement based on density. If
the density is large, the cement is used when the pressure is greater or
sufficiently large, as well as the formation of sloughing (single). Whereas low

2.7 Pembahasan

2.7 Discussion
Cementing in the drilling well is a process of mixing and displacing the
slurry through the casing so that the cement flows upward through the
annulus of the casing, so that the casing is bound to the formation. In general,
cementing aims to place the casing on the borm hole wall protecting the
casing from mechanical problems during drilling, protecting the casing from
corrosive formation fluid so that the cementing can work well and
guaranteeing the well from the start so that the well is not economical again
(Fatlolon et al., 2018). According to (Huda et al., 2018), the process of
pushing cement slurries using drill pipes or tubing into holes, and cement
slurries ascending to the annulus between the casing and the hole wall.
Failure in cementing operations will cause many problems, including causing
damage to productive formations, loss of mud circulation, small production
rates, and much more.
33
600 rpm. After that, the speed is reduced to 300 rpm, until it reaches a balance
note the scale as a reading of 300 rpm. After obtaining C600 and C300 from the
use of the Fann VG Meter from the two samples, plastic viscosity and yield
point can be calculated. From the data obtained, using the following formula
can be determined plastic viscosity and yield point (Herawati et al., 2017).
𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑉𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑦 (μp ) = C 600 – C 300
𝑌𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 𝑃𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡 (YP) = C 300 – μp
Based on experiments that have been done, the data obtained in the first
sample, namely C600 of 44 and C300 of 40. By using the formula above the
plastic viscosity in the first sample is 4 cp and the yield point is 36 lb/100 ft2.
In the second sample of data obtained, namely C 600 of 58 and C300 of 49. By
using the formula above the plastic sample viscosity of the second sample is
9 cp and the yield point is 40 lb/100 ft2.
In the first sample and the second sample have different plastic viscosity
results and yield points. This happens because the first sample uses standard
cement while the second sample uses standard cement + bentonite. This
results in an increase in plastic viscosity and yield point. Bentonite when
mixed with cement powder will form a filter cake that acts as a film and covers
the surface of the formation which is porous and permeable. API recommends
that for each addition of 1% bentonite, 5.3% water (BWOC) is also added,
which applies to the cement class of A-H. Other effects of bentonite are
increased yield points, better perforation quality, decreased compressive
strength, increased permeability, increased viscosity, and lower costs. For
temperatures above 110 ℃, the addition of bentonite will reduce compressive
strength and increase cement permeability. The use of bentonite is not
recommended at temperatures above 230 ℉ (Huda et al., 2018).
In drilling operations, especially cementing, the size of the viscosity
must be considered. Because viscosity is directly related to the ability of the
cement suspension flow. The size of the viscosity is related to the estimated
amount of pressure loss due to friction and flow properties of the cement

memperpanjang atau memperlambat thickening time perlu ditambahkan
terhadap thickening time :
time. Contoh aditif, antara lain :

3.7 Pembahasan
mencapai konsisten 100 Bc. Harga 100 Bc ini merupakan batas bubur semen
masih dapat dipompakan lagi, sehingga thickening time sering disebut juga
pumpability. Dalam hidrasinya semakin lama semen mengeras maka
viskositas semakin meningkat. Viskositas pada semen disebut konsistensi
karena semen merupaka fluida yang non-newtonian. Besarnya thickening time
penyemenan 50% dari thickening time. Waktu pemompaan suspensi semen
gypsum. Pengukuran thickening time dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat
Atmoshperic Consistometer dan pengukuruan initial dan final setting time
47
menggunakan alat Vicat Apparatus. Pada percobaan ke-III ini, praktikan tidak
melakukan percobaan secara langsung melainkan secara sistem daring
melalui google meet.
bernilai 3.5 (UC), menit 20 bernilai 3.5 (UC), menit 25 bernilai 4 (UC), menit
30 bernilai 4.5 (UC), menit 35 bernilai 5 (UC), menit 40 bernilai 6 (UC), menit
45 bernilai 7 (UC), menit 50 bernilai 7 (UC). Thickening time yang diperoleh
skala sebesar 7 UC. Setelah pengukuran thickening time, dilakukan
pengukuran initial setting time dan final setting time. Initial Setting Time
Final Setting Time (FST) adalah waktu semen
mencapai titik akhir dalam pengerasan suspense semen. Hasil yang
didapatkan untuk initial setting time sebesar 4 mm dan final setting time
sebesar 2 mm.
dapat mempercepat proses pengerasan bubur semen sehingga thickening time

3.7 Discussion
Thickening time is the time it takes for the pulp to reach a consistent 100
Bc. The price of 100 BC is the limit of cement slurry which can still be pumped
again, so thickening time is often called pumpability. In hydration the longer
the cement hardens the viscosity increases. Viscosity in cement is called
consistency because cement is a non-newtonian fluid. The amount of
thickening time needed depends on the depth of cementing, the volume of
cement slurry to be pumped and the type of cementing. Generally the
thickening time is 3 - 3.5 hours, for cementing with a depth of 6,000-18,000 ft
(Huda et al., 2018).
In the cementing process it is usually safer to use a cementing time 50%
of the thickening time. The pumping time of the cement suspension must be
less than the thickening time, if the time is greater, the cement suspension will
harden first before reaching the desired target (Novrianti et al., 2017).
In the third experiment on "Examination Of Cements Suspension
Thickening Time, Initial & Final Setting Time", using gypsum additives.
Thickening time measurements are performed using the Atmospheric
Consistometer and initial and final setting time measurements using the Vicat
Apparatus. In this third experiment, praktikan does not conduct experiments
directly, but online via the google meet system. Due to conditions in Indonesia
are experiencing a corona virus pandemic, so laboratory assistants explain
the theory and workings of this third experiment through Google Meet. And
the laboratory assistant also gives a video about the third experiment, so that
it makes it easier for the practitioner to understand.
Furthermore, data from the results obtained in this experiment came
from the practitioner or group who had previously conducted experiments in
the laboratory. From the experimental data found a scale (UC) at 5 minutes
worth 1 (UC), 10 minutes worth 3 (UC), 15 minutes worth 3.5 (UC), 20
minutes worth 3.5 (UC), 25 minutes worth 4 (UC), minute 30 is 4.5 (UC),
minute 35 is 5 (UC), minute 40 is 6 (UC), minute 45 is 7 (UC), minute 50 is 7
(UC). Thickening time obtained by adding gypsum at t = 50 minutes gives a
49
scale reading of 7 UC. After measuring the thickening time, the initial setting
time and final setting time are measured. Initial Setting Time (IST) is the time
when the cement suspension reaches the point or the initial time in hardening.
Final Setting Time (FST) is the time the cement reaches the end point in
hardening the cement suspension. The results obtained for an initial setting
time of 4 mm and a final setting time of 2 mm.
Gypsum additives are included as accelerators, which additives can
accelerate the hardening process of cement slurry so that the thickening time
is shorter. Accelerator is used for cementing shallow wells, the temperature
and pressure are low, the distance to reach the target is not too long so that
the cement hardening time can be accelerated where the 4 hour cement
strength can reach 500 psi (Samura et al., 2018).
3.8 Kesimpulan
1. Thickening time sebesar 7 UC dicapai pada saat t = 50
mempercepat proses pengerasan bubur semen sehingga thickening time
menjadi lebih singkat.
3. Initial setting time sbesar 4 mm dan final setting time sebesar 2 mm.

4.7 Pembahasan
Pada percobaan ke-IV tentang “Pengujian Free Water” menggunakan
dua sampel zat aditif.
video tentang percobaan ke-IV “Pengujian Free Water”, sehingga praktikan
komposisi 350 gr + 250 ml air + 6 gram aditif barite.
didiamkan selama dua jam. Free water akan terpisah dari bubur semen,
mengendap dibagian atas bubur semen.
didapatkan selama melakukan pengujian selama dua jam yaitu free water
54
memperlambat thickening time, menaikkan atau menurunkan densitas bubur
semen, menaikkan volume bubur semen, mengurangi fluid loss, menaikkan
pengerasan bubur semen sehingga thickening time dapat diperpendek.
semen berkurang.

4.7 Discussion
In the fourth experiment "Examination Of Free Water" used two
samples of additives. In the first sample using additives NaCl and the second
sample using additives barite. The purpose of the fourth experiment is to
determine the price of free water content and the effect of additives on free
water. Examination Of Free Water is very important to do before carrying out
the cementing process, because it will affect the quality and cementing
process. Free water is a measure or price of excess water in a cement slurry
to fully mix the cement mixture.
In this fourth experiment, praktikan does not conduct experiments
directly in the laboratory but online system through google meet. The
laboratory assistant explains it very well and provides a video about the IV
experiment "Examination Of Free Water", so that the practitioner can
understand it well.
Examination Of Free Water uses two samples, namely the first sample
using Portland cement with a composition of 350 gr + 250 ml of water + 6
grams of NaCl additive and the second sample using Portland cement with a
composition of 350 gr + 250 ml of water + 6 grams of barite additive. The
cement suspension in the two samples made was put into a measuring cup
and allowed to stand for two hours. Free water will separate from the cement
slurry, settling at the top of the cement slurry.
Furthermore, the data from the results obtained in the fourth experiment
are from the practitioner or group that has previously conducted experiments
in the laboratory with the laboratory assistant. The results obtained during
the two-hour test are free water for the first sample (NaCl) of 2 ml with% free
water of 0.8% and for the second sample (barite) of 3.5 ml with% free water
of 1.4 %. The difference between the two samples is due to the influence of
the additive used.
According to (Huda et al., 2018), additives play an important role in the
planning of cement slurry because in general these additive functions are:
accelerating or slowing thickening time, increasing or decreasing the density
56
of cement slurry, increasing the volume of cement slurry, reducing fluid loss,
increasing resistance properties long (durability), and increase strength. In
the first sample (NaCl) is an additive which belongs to the accelerator group.
According to (Huda et al., 2018), an accelerator is an additive that can
accelerate the hardening process of cement slurry so that the thickening time
can be shortened. According to (Samura et al., 2018), the accelerator is used
for cementing shallow wells, low temperature and pressure, and the distance
to reach the target is not too long so that the cement hardening time can be
accelerated within four hours the strength of the cement reaches 500 psi. In
the second sample (barite) is an additive which belongs to the weighting agent
class. According to (Tasnim, 2019), a weighting agent is an additive that
functions to increase the density of cement slurry. According to (Huda et al.,
2018), weighting agents are used in wells that have high formation pressure.
Based on the results obtained from both samples, free water with the
addition of barite additives is greater than the addition of NaCl additives. So,
the desired result is appropriate considering the accelerator function to
reduce free water and barite is to increase free water.
According to (Ng, 2014), Examination Of Free Water is important to
do, if free water exceeds the maximum limit, pores will occur in the cement.
Therefore, causing the cement suspension to have a large permeability, the
fluid contact between the formation and the annulus strength of the cement is
reduced.
4.8 Kesimpulan

kondisi lingkungan.
5. Analisa data hasil pengujian free water berikut : 350 gr semen Portland,
250 ml air, 6 gr bentonite, diperoleh free water 4 ml, volume suspensi
semen 250 ml, dan % free water = 1.6% !
Jawab :
Bentonite bersifat banyak menghisap
air, sehingga volume bubur semen bisa menjadi 10 kalinya (Huda et al.,
2018).

5.7 Pembahasan

5.7 Discussion
Filtration loss is the loss of part of the liquid phase (filtrate) sludge that
enters the permeable formation. Filtration loss that is too large has a bad
effect on the formation and the mud itself, because it can cause formation
damage (reduction of effective permeability to oil/gas) and mud will lose a lot
of liquid. Mud cake should be thin so as not to minimize the drill hole
(Fitrianti, 2012). According to (Widada et al., 2019), filtration loss is the loss
of a portion of liquid (filtrate) sludge entering the permeable formation.
Factors that influence these properties are filtration time, temperature,
concentration of solids, permeability of sludge drilling mud and type of mud.
A large filtration loss in the drilling operation will cause the mud system to
lose its liquid component, also causing formation damage due to reduced
porosity and effective permeability to oil and gas.
The experiment this time was Filtration Loss Testing on cement
suspension. There are 2 samples used, namely:
• Sample A, with a composition of 350 grams of cement, 213 ml of water
and 4 grams of CMC additives.
• Sample B, with a composition of 350 grams of cement, 213 ml of water
and 4 grams of Bentonite additives.
After the cement suspension is made, the cement sample is then poured
into the cylinder filter press tool that has been installed filter paper and placed
a measuring cup under the cylinder to accommodate the filtrate. The volume
of filtrate recorded was at the 25th minute.
From this sample test we got a volume of filtrate sample A of 125 ml and
sample B of 150 ml. The calculation of F30 for sample A is 141.9 ml with%
error = 11.90% and for sample B, F30 is 170.31 ml with% error = 11.92%.
CMC is an effective polymer used as filtration control during the
cementing process and CMC is an adequate additive in controlling the filtrate
in cement slurry for various temperatures and CMC is also considered the
best for controlling liquid loss. From this it can be said that the test results
69
are in accordance with the theory, where CMC reduces the value of the filtrate
volume. CMC is an additive used to slow the hardening process of cement
slurry, but in this case, CMC is also used as a Weighting Agent additive to
increase density. While bentonite is an extender to reduce density and is a lot
of sucking water so that the viscosity rises. (Huda et al., 2018).
If the hydrostatic pressure of the cement is greater than the pressure of
the rock formation, then the rock formation will break. This will cause a
failure in cementing or loss circulation (inclusion of slurry cement into the
fracture) (Suhascaryo et al., 2012).
So to avoid this, the hydrostatic pressure of the cement must be reduced
by reducing the density of the cement suspension. Higher hydrostatic pressure
makes the viscosity higher because of the amount of water that enters the
formation. Another result is the damage to the casing, the leak.
Filtration loss is an event that must be avoided, the API standard for
filtration loss is 150 cc - 200 cc within 30 minutes at a pressure of 1000 Psi.
The cementing of the intermediate casing aims to cover upnormal
formation pressures and to isolate loss circulation areas. However, when this
has happened, squeeze cementing will be carried out for the purpose of
repairing wells with the aim of closing the loss circulation zone (Prasetyo et
al., 2006).
5.8 Kesimpulan

Secondary cementing (remedial cementing) dibagi menjadi 3 bagian,
yaitu:

6.7 Discussion
In the sixth experiment on "Examination Of Cements Suspension
Compressive Strength And Shear Bond Strength", the tool used to test the
compressive strength and shear bond strength of cement suspensions is
Hydraulic Press. Compressive Strength is defined as the strength of the
cement to withstand the pressures originating from the formation and from
the casing. Shear strength is defined as the strength of the cement in holding
the weight of the casing or holding pressures in the vertical direction (Huda
et al., 2018).
Before conducting this sixth experiment, the laboratory assistant
explained about the testing of compressive strength and shear bond strength
of cement suspension, the function of cementing, and the purpose of this test.
After the assistant explains, the practitioner prepares the tools and materials
used. The use of cubic samples is more difficult than cylindrical samples,
because cubic samples must be removed first. Both samples were mashed or
flattened using wood sandpaper throughout the sample which was found to
be uneven, sandy and other matters that would cause the measurement results
to be inaccurate. The measurement of compressive strength is done first then
followed by the measurement of shear bond strength. In the compressive
85
strength measurement using two samples, namely the cubic sample (standard
cement) and the second cubic sample (standard cement + bentonite).
Measurements are made by placing a cubic sample in a bearing block and
the placement must be in the middle, then start the pump driving motor, left
until the maximum loading time is not less than 20 seconds and not more than
60 seconds. After the sample has begun to change or crack, record the results
indicated on the manometer. Do the same for the next sample of the cubic
sample (standard cement + bentonite) and the cylinder sample (standard
cement).
The maximum yield for the cubic sample (standard cement) is 926.31 psi
and the cubic sample (standard cement + bentonite) is 588.24 psi. Cylinder
sample (standard cement) was 76.10 psi. From the results obtained, that the
maximum loading results for all samples differ. After maximum loading,
compressive strength results were obtained for cubic samples (standard
cement) of 2311.27 psi and cubic samples (standard cement + bentonite) of
1585.67 psi. For cylindrical samples (standard cement) shear bond strength
measurements were carried out with a yield of 175.36 psi. Can be chosen in
the experiments that have been done, only compressive strength for cubic
samples (standard cement + bentonite) has decreased quite a lot. A good
drilling cement is cement which has high shear bond strength and
compressive strength. The addition of additives is very influential in
compressive strength testing. Additives such as bentonite are substances that
can reduce the value of compressive strength and shear bond strength, while
barite will increase the value of compressive strength. Besides additives,
other factors that influence compressive strength are: temperature,
conditioning, conditioning pressure, moisture content of the cement (WCR),
fineness of the grains of cement and the length of time of conditioning (Huda
et al., 2018).
According to (Santoso et al., 2019), the minimum strength recommended
by API to be able to continue drilling operations is 1000 psi shown in table
6.3. Meanwhile, good bond strength is not less than 100 psi, so the casing can
86
be firmly bound (Huda et al., 2018). At high temperatures the strength of the
cement will experience interference, this is due to the name strength
retrogetion. This will change the composition of the cement components and
cause the strength of the cement to be lost. Usually compressive strength is
greater than shear bond strength, usually 8-10 times greater (Arif Eka
Rahmanto).

A. Simpulan
shear bond strength (kekuatan semen). Pengontrolan densitas sangat
penting untuk dilakukan. Densitas semen pemboran berbanding lurus
densitas semen, contohnya barite. Jadi, densitas semen yang baik adalah
tidak terlalu tinggi dan tidak terlalu rendah.

B. Saran
menjalani praktikum diperlukan banyak waktu agar prosedur praktikum
bisa diikuti dengan baik.
berkurang.
