PENGUKURAN POROSITAS
(POROSITY MEASUREMENT)
1.1
Tujuan Percobaan
Menentukan besarnya harga volume total batuan, volume pori-pori batuan
1.2
Teori Dasar
proses geologinya porositas dibagi dua, yaitu :
Porositas primer
Secondary Recovery.

porosimeter. Terlebih dahulu mengukur diameter dan panjang core, lalu
dilanjutkan dengan mengukur steel plug dan sop. Setelah diukur panjang dan
diameternya lalu ukur injeksi gas helium sebesar 95 psi ke porosimeter. Kemudian
batuan persatuan volume tertentu. Porositas batuan reservoir dapat di
klasifikasikan menjadi dua, yaitu :
a. Porositas absolute : Persen volume pori-pori total terhadap volume
batuan total (bulk volume).
diklasifikasikan menjadi dua, yaitu :
14
15
7. Komposisi mineral
reservoir lainnya, yaitu :
a. Hubungan porositas dengan permeabilitas
Jika permeabilitas baik, maka porositas baik. Jika porositas baik belum
tentu permeabilitas baik.
b. Hubungan porositas dan wetabilitas
Jika porositas baik maka wetabilitas baik.
d. Hubungan porositas dengan kompresibilitas
Jika porositas baik maka kompresibiltas buruk.
16
1.8

Besar-kecilnya porositas
suatu batuan akan menentukan kapasitas penyimpanan fluida reservoir.
Secara matematis porositas dapat dinyatakan sebagai :

Effective Porosity
Is the ratio of the pore volume related to the total volume of rock or

Therefore, oil can only flow through the interconnected pores then it is
important in the petroleum industry and are measured in the experiment mi is the
effective porosity. The usefulness of the measurement of porosity in the petroleum
especially in exploration is to define a backup or IOIP (Initial Oil In Place) while
the exploitation used for completion wells (Well Completion) and Secondary
Recovery. Usually the magnitude of porosity berlusar between 5-30% porosity of
5% is usually included in the small porosity. Theoretically, the magnitude of the
porosity of not more than 47%. In the field can we get a visual estimate, which is
semi-quantitative determination and use the following scale:
24
Indirectly, the porosity is calculated based on the measurement of welllogging. There are some good tools to determine the porosity is sonic and density

Discussion
In the lab experiments one is determining of porosity. One of the
33
There are several factors that affect the size of the porosity of a rock, that is:
Grain size
The smaller the grain size of the cavity that is formed will be
smaller as well, and vice versa if the large grain size, the cavity is
formed also getting bigger.
Grain shape
Rock with bad grain shape will have a large porosity, good grain
shape whereas if it will have a small porosity.
Cementation
If a rock cemented well then most likely there will be many pores
that are not related. This can lead to the effective porosity of the rock it
being small. Cement material will basically reduce the price porosity.
Which can be either cement material is silica, aksida iron and clay
material.
Compacting
Increasingly in the position of the rock surface, the greater the
load received. If a rock Compacted well meaning deeper than the
surface, the pores of the rock will be smaller because the grains making
up getting docked.
Angularity
If the degree of angularity of rocks making up the larger granules
(the farther from roundness) granulated form will be angled.
Mineral composition
If the constituent rocks consist of minerals soluble carbonates such
groups it will be good porosity since voids due to the dissolution of the
rock.
34
35
1.8
Conclusion
From the above discussion regarding the porosity then we can take the
following conclusions:
Porosity is the ratio between the size of the pore volume of rock with a
total volume of rock of unity given volume.
To calculate the porosity, there are two ways: by weighing and by using
helium porosimeter.
Most related to the porosity of the physical properties of other rock that is
the permeability, saturation pressure, wettabilitas, and compressibility.
There are several factors that affect the size of porosity ie, grain size,
grain composition, grain size distribution, particle shape, cementation,
compaction, and fractures.
PERCOBAAN II
(EXPERIMENT II)
PENGUKURAN PERMEABILITAS
(PERMEABILITY MEASUREMENT)
2.1
Tujuan Percobaan
Menentukan besarnya permeabilitas absolute dengan menggunakan Gas
Teori Dasar
tingkat kemudahan mengalirnya fluida melalui pori-pori batuan.
kelulusan (permeabilitas) sebesar 1 darcy.

test (pemberdayaan sumur tua).
batuan. Sedangkan metode hydraulic fracturing, yaitu dengan memperbesar

PERMEABILITY MEASUREMENT
2.1
Experiment Purpose
To determine the value of permeability absolute by used permeamet gas and
liquid permeameter.
2.2
Basic Theory
Permeability definition is the effort of reservoir rock to pass the reservoir
fluid by pore that connected without destroying the source rock particle. So
permeability is easy level for fluid flowby pores. In generally analisa result of
core sample that got from reservoir gave the differen value of permeability, this is
show the characteristic from reservoir rock.
Because Henry Darcy as a figure of permeability reaserch so that unit of
permeability is darcy.
API definition for 1 darcy is a pore medium that have pass (permeability) 1
darcy. If the liquid just one phase with cp viscosity flowing with velocity 1 cm/sec

On reservoir rock, fluid flowing sometime more then one kind so that
permeability can be divided :
51
1. Absolute Permeability
Is permeability value one of rock if the flow fluid throught rock pores. It just
difined one phase.
2. Effective Permeability
Permeability if flowin fluid more then one kind of fluid (example oil, gas,
dan water)
3. Relative Permeability
Different between effective permeability with absolute permeability.
Permeability measurement can do it by some way, these are :
a) Core Analysis
b) Log Analysis
c) Testing Well
On laboratory, core analysis to determining permeability as example of
rock do it by using nitrogen gas because gas not wetting rock surface and it has
uniform flow passin the all of pores.

Discussion
First, make sure the core holder clean of the remnants of grain from the
previous sample. Then prepare the core, and then calculate the diameter and
length using calipers. Then, looking extent by using the formula
Insert cores into the core test system. After that, the set of all panel and turn on
the compressor. Set the pressure of the compressor with nitrogen. Here we use
Nitrogen gas because this gas is not wet the surface of the rock and has a uniform
flow passing through the pore. Wait for a few minutes, until we get the pressure
and flow rate. Once you can, turn off the compressor and set the panel to its
original position. Then, we are looking for permeability using Darcy's law.
Application field in the experiment are at the time of production and well
test (empowerment old wells). At the time of production, it is very important to
know the permeability in the reservoir rock because if the greater permeability,
the fluid stored on the rock was also growing. Moreover, determination of
permeability is also useful during the well test. This is because before the test
well, we must first examine the reservoir rock in the well, whether permeable or
not. If not permeable, then the well can not be produced back and when, is
permeable, then the well can still be produced back. This is because the
permeable rock in which there is a fluid that can be produced back.
Efforts are underway to increase the permeability of rocks in them, namely
the method of acidizing and hydraulic fracturing methods. Acidizing methods,
namely by injecting acid into the well to clean the pores of the rock so as to
improve the permeability of the rock. While the method of hydraulic fracturing,
which is to enlarge the rock fractures, fractures enlarged will improve the ability
to drain the fluid.
Henry Darcy is a pioneer investigation permeability, hence its name is used
as a unit of permeability that is, Darcy. In 1856, Henry Darcy conduct
experiments using sandstone is not compact which the water flowed. Cylindrical
porous sandstone 100% saturated with fluid viscosity (), the cross-sectional area
(A), and the length (L). Then, with the pressure in

the pressure difference, and the dimensions of the rock used. By regulating the
flow rate (Q), such that turbulent flow does not occur, then the price obtained
absolute permeability rock,
(
Where:
K = permeability, Darcy
Q = flow rate, cc/s

A = cross-sectional area,
L = length, m
P = pressure difference, atm
The scale of measurement / permeability parameters are as follows:
Bad / tight (tight) = less than 5 mD
Enough (fair) = between 5-10 mD
(Good) = 10-100 mD
Excellent (very good) = between 100-1000 mD

Conclusion
From the above discussion regarding the permeability then we can take the
following conclusions:
1. Field applications of this experiment is at time of production and well test.
2. Efforts are underway to increase the permeability of which the method of
acidizing and hydraulic fracturing.
3. The name of the unit of permeability is "Darcy" is taken from the name of
the pioneers of the investigation, namely Henry Darcy permeability.

batuan disebut wetting oil.
kurang ber-porous (porositas rendah).

MEASUREMENT OF FLUID SATURATION
3.1
Purpose Experiment
Determine the magnitude of the price of fluid saturation in the reservoir
rock so as to estimate the amount of oil reserves, knowing the boundary between
the water-oil and determine the water level and oil.

3. Gas saturation
Defined as the ratio between the pore volume occupied by the gas to the

................................................................... (3.3)
In general, almost all the oil has a water reservoir that accumulates around
the accumulation of oil and water areas such as free water (free water), while the
water that accumulates below the oil is called water pedestal (bottom water).
It is known that the density of the oil is lighter than the density of water so
that the oil tends upward, while the water tends to bottom. Besides, there is also a
layer of water on the pore walls of rock called the wetting of water, while the oil
layer attached to the pore walls of rock called wetting oil.
In a reservoir, natural gas will always be together with the produced oil
from a reservoir. The energy produced by the gas under pressure is a valuable
energy to push from the reservoir to the surface.
Fluid saturation in the reservoir will always vary from one place to another.
Water saturation will tend to be higher in less berporous rock (low porosity).
Price saturation in oil field production will usually range between 0.1-0.5 by the
density difference between water, oil and gas on the basis of the reservoir will
73
tend to have a higher water saturation than the structure of the reservoir at the
top and vice versa, in reseervoir top gas saturation will be higher.
Fluid saturation will vary with the cumulative oil production. If the oil is
produced, then the position of the oil in the reservoir will be replaced by water or
gas, so that the formation will always change the oil saturation.
From the correlation made by Ben A. Emdhal, formations with low
permeability and water saturation corenya is considered productive. To
formasidengan greater permeability, the upper limit of the water saturation is
slightly less than 50%. Therefore, the results of the investigation of the sample
core saturation value, it will be found that the formation will be productive if the
surface of the water saturation in the core sample is less than 50%.
In Laboratoty get fluid saturation measurement is determined by several

heavy residue (w), and this solubility was 5.00 g, 4.074 g, 18.52%. From the
above data it can be concluded that the core A is sandstone (sandstone) because
the hard sandstone dissolved by HCL, so that solubility is low. However, many
residuals. Meanwhile, core B is a carbonate as carbonate rocks more easily
dissolved with HCL compared sandstone so low solubilitynya but little residue.
Stimulation methods used to stimulate the well in order to increase the
production rate is a method of acidizing and hydraulic fracturing methods.
Acidizing method is the injection of acid into the well to dissolve and merekahkan
rock in order to increase its permeability. Acidizing methods can be divided into
three kinds, namely:
1. Matrix acidizing with that acid injecting to up into the well to dissolve the
rock matrix.
2. Acidizing fracturing by injecting high-pressure acid to fractured rock that
the higher permeability.
3. Acidizing by injecting acid wash only up to the bottom of the hole
production from the wells to wash scale.
While the method of hydraulic fracturing by injecting high-pressure gel to
fracturing permeability rock that price rises.
In the method of acidizing, acid used is HF and HCL. In the carbonate rock
formations used HCL (hydrochloric acid), because it can be diluted with
carbonate rocks and HCL HCL is more economical than HF. Meanwhile, the
sandstone formations used HF (fluoride acid) because sandstone does not easily
dissolve on the HCL so using HF are likely to be able to dissolve all types of rock
formations. However, HF is not more economical than HCL

Discussion
Sieve analysis is a experiment that we do in laboratory at Reservoir
Mechanical. Experiments sieve analysis is done to cope with sand damage occur
during production. This form is useful sieve sieve to sift the grains of sand. The
initial step in conducting this experiment is to take samples of reservoir rocks.
Then weigh up to obtain 200 gr. After the stacking sieve of the greatest diameter
to the smallest. The order of 3/4, 3/8, 4, 8, 16, 30, 50, 100, 200. After that place
compiled dialat sieve shaker. Pour the sample which had been weighed into a
sieve. After that rotate the lever on the tool until shakerbekerja shaker. Then do
constantly until 15 minutes. If gerakshaker not constant then the filtering process
will be uneven. When finished take the sieve and weigh the samples were left in
the respective sieve. After the record weighed as weight retained.
At the time of the calculated amount of the retained weight is 199.14 grams. While
the weight of the sample before it is put into the sieve was 200 g. This can occur
123
because when weighing the sample is left in the sieve is still no grain left in the
sieve and also when pouring the rest of the sample that is in the sieve are granules
that fall outside the balance sheet.
The aim of the experiment is tackling the sieve analysis kepasiran. Sand damage
is a situation where the sand come to the surface reproduced.Sand damage is due
from the eroded rock that flakes of rock eroded sand, joined together producing
oil flowing to the surface. However, this sand damage may also occur if the
compressive force (stress) on the rock is greater than the cementation of rock, so
the rock broke and the presence of grains of sand from the fracture that resulted
in the oil sands come together reproduced. If the sand come to producing not
handled or cleaned, it can result in broken tools, and the percentage of flow rate
would be decreased.
Sand damage can be overcome by using a screen / slotted liner and method of
gravel pack. Methods screen / slotted liner is method that uses a screen in
tackling sand damage. Screen is a filter that can filter sand. Meanwhile, gravel
method pack is method performed by inserting larger sand mixed with gel into the
formation to bind the sand that disrupt production.
5.8
Conclussion
Based on the discussion, the conclusions are:
1. This experiment was conducted to cope with the sand damage.
2. Causes severe differences in the initial sample with a sample weight after
granules are filtered sample remaining in the sieve and can not be
removed, as well as at the time of weighing are the grains that fell.
3. Sand damage is a situation where the sand come together producted fluid.
4. Sand damage can be overcome by using a screen / slotted liner and
method of gravel pack.
