Japanese consumer preferences for additive-free wine labeling
4. Permasalahan
The study identified the problem of adverse selection in the wine market, where consumers
may not have accurate information about the quality and safety of the wine they are
purchasing, leading to a potential mismatch between their preferences and the actual
characteristics of the wine. This highlights the need for promoting and disseminating
accurate information about wine to increase consumer awareness and reduce
misunderstandings ([2]).

Effect of wine pomace extract on dechlorination of chloroethenes in soil suspension
4. Permasalahan
The specific issue addressed in the study is the use of wine pomace extract (WPE) for
bioremediation of soil contaminated with chloroethenes. The study aims to confirm that
WPE contributes to the microbial degradation of chloroethenes, identify the types of
carboxylic acids present in WPE, and verify whether the identified substances function in
the microbial degradation of chloroethenes. The study found that lactic acid and tartaric acid
in WPE are effective hydrogen donors for the anaerobic degradation of chloroethenes.

5. Variabel
The study investigated the effect of wine pomace extract and three carboxylic acids (l-lactic
acid, l-tartaric acid, and syringic acid) on the dechlorination of tetrachloroethene (PCE) into
ethene in cultured groundwater (Fig. 4) [3]. The concentrations of vinyl chloride (VC) in
samples with wine pomace extract, l-lactic acid, and l-tartaric acid were significantly lower
than in the control sample, indicating the promotion of VC degradation (Fig. 5) [4]. The
carboxylic acids in wine pomace extract were analyzed using liquid chromatography-mass
spectrometry (LC-MS) [6]. The microbial community used in the PCE degradation test was
obtained from soil-mixed groundwater collected from a TCE-contaminated site in Osaka,
Japan [7].

6. Novelty
The novelty of the study is the use of wine pomace extract as a biostimulant for the
bioremediation of chloroethene-contaminated groundwater. This study demonstrated that
wine pomace extract can enhance the dechlorination of chloroethenes into ethene by
indigenous microorganisms in groundwater. The use of wine pomace extract as a
biostimulant is a sustainable and cost-effective approach for the remediation of
chloroethene-contaminated sites. [4]

7. Model yang digunakan
The methods used in the article are as follows:For the PCE degradation test with carboxylic
acids, a glass bottle was used and the final concentrations were 0.1 mM each for lactic acid,
tartaric acid, and syringic acid, and 22.7 μM for PCE. The concentrations of chloroethenes
were measured over time using gas chromatography [1].Carboxylic acids were extracted
from wine pomace by alkaline maceration. The extracted water-eluted fraction (WPE) was
used in the PCE degradation test along with the methanol-eluted fraction and aqueous test
solutions of lactic acid, tartaric acid, and syringic acid. Soil suspension and cultured
groundwater were added to the glass bottle, which was sealed tightly with Teflon-lined butyl
rubber stoppers and aluminum seals. The PCE degradation test was performed in an
anaerobic environment [4].Gas chromatography was used to determine the concentrations of
chloroethenes (VC, 1,2-DCE, TCE, and PCE) in the culture medium in the glass bottle. A
headspace gas injection method using a gas chromatograph with a dry electrolytic
conductivity detector (DELCD) was used. The GC calibration factor was determined to
directly relate the GC peak areas obtained from 0.05 mL headspace gas injection to the
masses of the compounds in the glass bottle [3].Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was
conducted using JMP software [3].Please note that the citations provided may contain
additional details on the methods used in the study.
detektor konduktivitas elektrolitik kering (DELCD).
