ABSTRACT
Horn beetle [Oryctes rhinoceros L. (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae, Dynastinae)] is a major
pest on oil palm plantations. Attacks can occur in plantations of young to old. If these pests
survive in plantations, the crop yields will decline, even at the beginning of production will be
delayed, this pest gnawing damage the shoots with young leaves were not yet open, so that when
the cut open looks like the letter V. Control of beetle horns with using pheromone traps. Based on
this, the study aims to determine the population density horn beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros L.) On Oil
Palm Planting In Kanagarian Sialanggaung Dharmasraya. In connection with this case have done
research on population density horn beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros L.) in December 2015. The
sampling was done in oil palm cropping resident in Kanagarian Sialanggaung Dharmasraya with
descriptive survey method using ferotrap (pheromone traps). Samples were taken at palm oil
plantation. The tool used was a bucket closed, collection boxes, tweezers, bamboo measuring 50
cm, digital cameras, stationery, timber measuring 3 meters for a milestone, wood measuring 1 m
and a wooden half a meter to the right angle, wire, thermometer, hygrometer , anemometer, zinc,
rope, while the materials used are synthetic pheromone solution (Ethyl-4 Methyl Oktanoate),
sawdust and 70% alcohol. Based on the research that has been done the total population horn
beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros L.) were found is 50 with an average of 5 mice /trap and intensity of
their attacks are categorized above the threshold.
