Chapter 23
Voltammetry
A.) Perbandingan Voltammetry dengan Methode Electrochemical Lainnya
1.) Voltammetry: metode electrochemical dimana informasi terhadap analit diperoleh memlaui
pengukuran arus (i) sebagai fungsi potensial yang diberikan / applied potential
- Hanya sedikit sampel saja yang dibutuhkan
2.) pernedaan dengan metode Electrochemical lainnya
a) Potentiometry: pengukuran potensial sistem tanpa arus listrik
voltammetry – pengukuran arus listrik terhadap potensial yang bervariasi
b) Coulometry: menggunakan seluruh analit dalam prosesnya yang menggunakan arus tetap
or potential
voltammetry – menggunakan hanya sebagian kecil analit saja dengan potensial yang
bervariasi

Mekanisme Transpor:
(i) migration – pergerakan akibat mendan listrik
(ii) convection – pergerakan mekanik (pengadukan)
(iii) diffusion – pergerakan akibat gradien konsentrasi
Teknik Analisis Voltametri
menjadi suatu rangkaian tertetup (close circuit).
⬧ Arus yang diukur di elektroda kerja menggambarkan aktivitas (konsentrasi) spesi

Cyclic voltammogram
Working Electrode is Pt & Reference electrode is SCE
6 mM K3Fe(CN)6 & 1 M KNO3
A. Initial negative current due to oxidation of H 2O to give O2
< ip = 2.686x105n3/2AcD1/2v1/2
- A: electrode area
- c: concentration
- v: scan rate
- D: diffusion coefficient
Thus,
- can calculate standard potential for half-reaction
- number of electrons involved in half-reaction
- diffusion coefficients
- if reaction is reversible
Example 20: In experiment 1, a cyclic voltammogram was obtained from a 0.167 mM
solution of Pb2+ at a scan rate of 2.5 V/s. In experiment 2, a second cyclic
voltammogram is to be obtained from a 4.38 mM solution of Cd 2+. What must the scan
rate be in experiment 2 to record the same peak current in both experiments if the
diffusion coefficients of Cd2+ and Pb2+ are 0.72x10-5 cm2s-1 and 0.98x10-5 cm2s-1,
respectively.
