TUTUP TELINGA adalah bekal yang dibawa Danarto ketika menunaikan
ibadah haji. Agustus September 1983. Maksudnya adalah ia mencoba
untuk lurus beribadah. Tapi nyatanya ada saja hal-hal yang tak
mungkin ia berkelit. Sampai sekarang ia masih terkenang oleh
sejumlah peristiwa yang ia alami di Masjid Nabawi ataupun Masjidil
Haram. Ia merasa jangan-jangan banyak malaikat yang menyamarkan
diri sebagai orang berkulit hitam.
Buku yang Anda pegang ini paling tidak menghantarkan 17 surat-

suratnya, catatan harian yang ia tulis ketika berada di Tanah Suci.
Danarto adalah pelukis dan penulis cerpen. Lahir 27 Juni 1940 di

Sragen (Jawa Tengah) ia pernah membantu pembuatan film cerita
sebagai penata artistik. Pernah pula pameran Kanvas Kosong (1973)
dan cerpen-cerpennya memenangkan hadiah (1968 & 1983), dan
diterjemahkan ke beberapa bahasa. Juga menyutradarai naskah
dramanya (1978).

kalangan keturunan Tionghoa sendiri ada yang tidak senang, walaupun

sebagai politikus, malah menurut hemat saya Oei Tjoe Tat boleh

hak-hak azasi manusia, di lain pihak suasana dan praktek revolusioner
di masa itu tidak selalu menghormati hak-hak azasi. Membaca
memoarnya kita melihat bagaimana suatu pribadi meluncur ke dalam
sejarah, bukan sosok yang berpamrih melemparkan diri ke dalam

sejarah.
Setelah 50 tahun merdeka, separohnya dalam zaman Orde Baru,

seyogianya selesailah segala kontroversi sosial-politik di masa lalu
karena isu-isu baru yang lebih relevan perlu dihadapi.

Buku ini diterjemahkan dari kitab Nafahat al-Uns, sebuah karya paling
monumental Abd al-Rahman Jami [817-898H/1414-1492M], seorang
sufi agung yang tidak hanya dikenal di Timur [kalangan Muslim
sendiri], tetapi juga di Barat [kaum orientalis pengkaji tasawuf]. Jami
juga terkenal karena novel legendaris sepanjang zaman yang pernah

Kebesaran Ibnu Rusyd sebagai seorang pemikir Islam mungkin tidak

Master Cheng Yen dilahirkan di kota kecil bernama Chingsui di
Taiwan bagian tengah pada tahun 1973. Ketika berusia 23 tahun,
beliau meninggalkan rumah untuk menjadi seorang Bhiksuni.
Master Cheng Yen selalu menerapkan cara hidup yang sederhana dan
saleh. Agar dapat berhemat, beliau membuat lilin dan tepung sereal
yang terbuat dari kacang-kacangan untuk mempertahankan hidup.
Pada tahun1966, beliau mendirikan Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi, dan
selama bertahun-tahun organisasi ini memusatkan kegiatan-
kegiatannya di bidang amal, kesehatan, pendidikan, budaya
kemanusiaan, bantuan internasional, donasi sumsum tulang,
sukarelawan komunitas, dan pelestarian lingkungan. Semua kegiatan
kemanusiaan tersebut dilakukan tanpa memandang perbedaan agama,
ras, suku, dan negara.
Pada tahun 1991, Master Cheng Yen mendapat penghargaan dari

Philippine Magsaysay Award yang merupakan penghargaan Nobel Asia.
Hidup secara sederhana, beliau secara aktif menjalani kegiatannya
menolong kaum papa serta memberikan pelajaran yang bermanfaat

bagi kaum yang berkecukupan.
