ESP is an approach

1. Approach
Is a starting point or our perspective on the teaching-learning process, which refers to the view of
the occurrence of a process that is still very general in nature, in which it inspires, strengthens and
underlies learning methods with certain theoretical scapes.
Approach in Language Teaching, there are:
a. Reading Approach
b. Oral-Situational Approach
c. Cognitif Approach

2. Methods
Is a set of procedure or system that spells out rather precisely how to teach foreign language. The
principle is same that is a way in the context of achieving goals.
There are many methods in Teaching Englis:
a. Grammar translation method
b. Audiolingual Method
c. Direct Method
d. Silent way Method
e. Total Physical Response Method
f. Suggestopedia

3. Strategy
Is a teaching-learning activity that Master's teachers should and students to learn the objectives of
learning can be achieved effectively and efficiently. Furthermore, in the learning strategy
contained the meaning of planning. That is, that strategy is basically conceptual about decisions
to be taken in a learning implementation.
According to Subyantoro, (2004) reveral the main types of learning strategies seen from the
characteristic of each individual study divided into:
A.    Repeat the strategy
B.    Elaboration of strategies
C.    Organizational strategy
D.    Meta cognitive strategies

ESP is an approach
ESP mempunyai pendekatan dan asumsi yang berbeda dengan General English (GE). Tujuan ESP adalah
agar mahasiswa mampu menguasai Bahasa Inggris pada bidang yang mereka pelajari. Misalnya
mahasiswa kimia, maka mereka harus memahami Bahasa Inggris untuk kimia, atau jika mereka
mahasiswa teknik, mereka harus mengetahui Bahasa Inggris untuk teknik, atau jika mereka bekerja di
perhotelan, maka mereka harus menguasai Bahasa Inggris perhotelan, jika mereka mahasiswa maritim,
maka mereka harus menguasai Bahasa Inggris maritim.ESP umumnya digunakan pada pengajaran bahasa
asing untuk kegunaan tertentu pada bidang ilmu dan profesi tertentu. Tujuan ini umumnya dipahami
sebagai manfaat dalam peran Bahasa Inggris itu sebagai alat komuniksi baik lisan maupun tulisan. Maka
dari itu, ESP dilihat sebagai pendekatan yaitu konsep dan metode yang memang berbeda dengan Bahasa
Inggris umum (General English).ESP adalah suatu pendekatan pengajaran Bahasa Inggris yang
mempunyai pendekatan, persepsi, desain, materi, evaluasi dan tujuan yang berbeda. Materi ESP mengacu
pada kebutuhan mahasiswa (students’ needs) dan pengguna lulusan itu sendiri.

ESP have approaches and assumptions that are different from General English (GE). The purpose of ESP
is that students are able to master English in the field they are studying. For example chemistry students,
then they must understand English for chemistry, or if they are engineering students, they must know
English for engineering, or if they work in hospitality, then they must master hospitality English, if they
are maritime students, then they must mastering maritime English. ESP is commonly used in teaching
foreign languages for certain uses in certain fields of science and professions. This goal is generally
understood as a benefit in the role of English as a means of communication both oral and written.
Therefore, ESP should be seen as an approach is concept and method that is indeed different from
General English. ESP is an English teaching approach that has a different approach, perception, design,
material, evaluation and purpose. ESP material refers to the needs of students (students' needs) and users
of the graduates themselves

ESP is an approach not a product


ESP adalah sebuah pendekatan bukan sebagai produk. ESP bukanlah jenis bahasa tertentu ,materi dalam
ESP juga berisi tentang pelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing namun pendekatannya yang
berbeda  
ESP adalah pendekatan pengajaran bahasa dimana semua konten dan metode didasarkan pada alasan pese
rta didik
