Abstract
There was conducted a research in SMP Plus Isyhar Prambon on English subject
focused on self-introduction material. This study aims to improve speaking skills
using discovery learning method. The form research is classroom action research
(PTK) and method used in this research is descriptive. Sources of data in this
study were teacher, 15 students of seventh grade and documentation. The data in
this study is RPP, observation form, and the results speaking learning skill. The
technique used in this research is speaking test skills, observation, and
documentation.The results obtained from this study the increase conversational
skills using discovery learning method. Based on the assessment criteria in the
speaking skills of students has increased from aspects of pronunciation, fluency,
diction, and sentences. The average value of student learning outcomes before
using PTK with an average of 54,6.Then, on the first cycle increased by an
average of 61,26. Furthermore, the value of the second cycle increased again
with the average value of 78,4. Suggestions in this research is that Indonesian
teachers can apply discovery learning methods in the process of learning,
especially learning to speak.
