Read the information about what a procedure text is. Discuss the information
with your friends and the teacher.
A Procedure Text is a text that explains how something works or how to use
instruction / operation manuals.
Functions / purposes:
To give instruction how to make or operate something.
To give direction how to make or operate something.
To explain / to tell / to describe / to inform how to to make or operate
something.
To explain / to tell / to describe / to inform the steps, the ways, or the
methods how to do to make something.
Generic structures:
Aim/ goal : contains information about the destination in the making or
operating of something.

Material :
There are three types of procedural text that does not use the materials.
Those are:
▪ A procedural text that identifies how to perform the instruction manual.
Example: How to use avideo game, a computer, etc.
▪ A procedural text that instructs how to perform certain activities with
unregulated.
Examples: Road safety rules, Video game rules, etc.
▪ A procedural text that relates to human natures or habits.
Examples: How to live happily, How to succeed, etc.
Steps : sequence tasks that must be done so that the goals can be achieved.
Steps or sequence of tasks must be from the first to the last.
Language features:
Use imperative sentences (commands), for examples cut, do not mix, and so
on.
Use action verbs, such as turn, put, do not, mix, etc.
Use connectives (conjunctions) to sort of activity, for examples then, after
that, finally, etc.
Use adverbials (adverbs) to declare the detailed time, place, an accurate way,
for examples, for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
Use the Simple Present Tense.
