CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
Kritik terhadap jurnal adalah salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan minat membaca seseorang
terhadap suatu subjek. Critical Journal Review ini adalah tulisan atau ulasan tentang karya
seseorang tentang suatu penelitian. Jurnal ini dikritik karena judulnya menarik Dan
bermanfaat bagi banyak orang. Karena masih banyak mahasiswa yang salah dalam
memahami apa itu kepemimpinan itu.
Mengkritik jurnal tidak dimaksudkan untuk menjatuhkan atau meningkatkan nilai jurnal,
Melainkan untuk menjelaskan apa itu jurnal. Kelebihan atau kelemahan jurnal yang akan
dipertimbangkan atau mereview jurnal kepada pembaca. Lebih jelasnya dalam mengkritik
Jurnal, kita dapat mengetahui secara lebih ringkas isi jurnal, antara lain tujuan penelitian,
permasalahan, metode yang digunakan, langkah-langkah penelitian, serta hasil dan
pembahasan penelitian.

*Theory
>Theories are opinions, ways, and rules of doing things. Theory has a function as a clear and
scientific summary of facts and laws. To gain understanding and organize experience is the
role of theory. The purpose of theory is to gain an understanding of something. A theory is a
rational type of abstract thinking about a phenomenon, or the results of such thinking.
>According to Ur (1984) as cited in Erawati (2013) there are several problems found by the
students during listening comprehension. First, students sometimes do not understand the
certain English sounds. Second, do not know how to cope with redundancy and “noise”.
Third, cannot predict the language meansing because they are not familiar with the pattern of
words. Fourth, do not understand the colloquial vocabulary. Fifth, cannot set their own
listening pace. Sixth, have difficulties in understanding another accent and the last is having
lack ability of how to use environment clues to get the meaning.

> The Strategy Used in Teaching Listening Listening strategy is a technique or activities that
can help students in develop their listening ability. So, these are some strategy that can
developing students’ ability in listening skill according to J. Richard (2008) theory: Top-
down Processing Top-down process as Richard (2008) stated that refers to the use of
background in understanding the meaning of a message.
There is many program that develop students to become a native speaker or develop the
students sense of english listening and speaking, the program are english courses from
curriculum, some english debate competition from school to school, to national level, even
international.etc.
After summarizing the article , we conclude that there are two strategies that teachers apply
in teaching listening comprehension at SMK Bina Brothers Medan, namely metacognitive
strategies and cognitive strategies are applied step by step. Based on Figure 4.1, it is stated
that 55% of metacognitive the strategy applied means the teacher applies it more then
cognitive strategies with only 45% applied in teaching listening understanding. The reason
the teacher applies these strategies in teaching listening understanding which is the
effectiveness of teachers in teaching, basically a teacher must be a good communicator, must
be taught students effectively and much more that makes a teacher effective and the most
important part is the instruction strategy that he chooses to deliver material that helps students
in study more effectively. So the reaserchers suggest that the other reasercher must find
another strategies that can improve the students and motivate them to become more sensitive
regarding english word, grammar, speaking and listening.
