bentuk poem,lisan dan tulis,dengan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait kehidupan
remaja,sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya.

1.Definition of a poem

Poem is a piece of writing that parttakes both of speech and songs.Writing a poem is defined as apiece
of writing in which the words are chosen for their beauty and sound.

2.Social Function of Poems

a.To express the writer’s thoughts and feelings or emotions.

b.To give pleasure

c. To entertain

d. To give value of life

e. To Inspire

3.Structure of Poems

a. Line : Line is a word or a row of words. It is the basic unit of poetry

b. Stanza : is a group of lines in a poem. It is often called a verse.

c.Rhyme scheme : is a pettern of word that contain similar sounds.

Is pattern that end rhymes form in a stanza or poem.

Is designed by assignment of different letter of the alphabet to each new rhyme.

For example AABB AAAA ABAB

d.Meter : is the rhytmic structure of poem.

e.Line break: A line break is where a line of poetry ends. It Causes the reader to pause and will
determine how the poem is read.

Ringkasan Materi

Narrative text is a story with complication or problematic events and tries to find the resolutions to
solve the problems.One of narrative text is a short story.A short story isna short work of fiction. Fiction is
prose writing about imegined events and characters. A short story is a fictional prose composition. It can
Usually be read in one sitting and it can be any length. According to Collins Dictionary,a short story is a
prose narrative of shorter length than the novel, especially one that concentrates on s single theme. In
conclusion, the definition of short story is a piece of fiction that has a limited number of words, only a
few characters and one theme.

1.Social funtion of short story

a.To amuse or entertain the readers with a story.

b.To teach a moral lesson through a story

c.To provide a unique literary experience through reading specific artistic genres.

d.To provide a path to understand human experience and brings in rich insight to one self and to others
who have a special contribution of rt to civilization.

2.Structure of short story

Short stories belong to narrative texts, so they have similar structure as the following.

a.Orientation. It introduces the characters, settings, and the situations . It is the background information

b. Rising action. This include the events leading up to the main problem or conflict.

c.Climax. This is when the problem reaches a high point. The story reaches a crucial moment. The
tension that is building reaches a peak.

d.Falling action. This is when the characters work to solve the problem or conflict. It is sometimes
called the denoument. This part of the story explores the consequences of the climax. The tension in the
story begins to ease.

e.Resolution. This how things end up in the story. The story’s central problem is finally solved,leaving the
reader with a sense of completion.

3.Element of short story

There are some elements of short story

a. Characters. Characters are difenid in two, They are:


1. Characters are the individuals that the story is about, or the persons in the story.
2. Characters are the characteristic of a person.

b.Setting. Setting is the time and location in which a story take place.

c. Plot. The plot is how the author arranges events to develop his basic idea,it is the sequences of
events in a story or play. The plot is a planned, logical series of events having a begining,
middle,end.
The short story usually has one plot, so it can be read in one setting.
d. Conflict. Conflict is essential to plot. Wiyhout conflict,there is no plot.It is the opposition of forces
which ties one incident to another and make the plot move. Every story has a conflict to solve.
The plot is centred on this conflict and the ways in which the characters attempt to resolve
the problem.
e. Point of view. Point of view is the angle from which the story is told. There are four types of
point of view.
First person point of view ( using I to tell the story )
Second person point of view ( the story is told to you)
Third person point of view ,limited ( The story is about he,she, but the narrator has full access to
the thoughs and experiences of all characters in the story.

f. Theme. The theme in a piece of fiction is its controlling idea or its central insight. It is the author’s
thoughts abvout a topic or view of human nature.

4.Characteristic of short story

a. It can be read in one sitting. Edgar Allan poe, in his essay said that a short storyvshould be read in
one sitting, anywhere from a half hour to two hours. In contemporary fiction, a short story can range
from 1000 to 20.000 words.

b.It contains little or no dialogue,but it may also be made of dialogue while the description is brief.

c.A modern short story describes all kinds of problems. Some short stories end by explaining what
has been goin on possibly in a suprising way
