• A greater chance of side loading either crane exists
• Load distribution can change if one crane gets noticeably higher than the

• Swinging and hoisting at the same time are not recommended

• A first rate signalman is required as well as good communications

Multi-Crane Lifts
Calculating Load Sharing: Menghitung Pembagian Beban:
• Step 1 – Calculate total load to be lifted Step 1 – Hitung beban yang mau
= Mass of Column + Mass of Equalising diangkat
Beam = Berat beban+ Berat Beam
= 19 + 1 = 19 + 1
= 20 T = 20 T
• Step 2 – Add safety factor of 20% to load

• Step 3 – Divide total into capacity of Crane = 24 T
A Step 3 – Berat total dibagi kapasitas
= 16 / 24 crane A
= 0.66 = 16 / 24
• Step 4 – Multiple total by the length of the = 0.66
equalising beam Step 4 – hasil langkah 3 kalikan dengan
= 0.66 x 8m panjang beam
= 5.28 m (always round down to nearest
whole number) = 0.66 x 8m
= 5m = 5.28 m (selalu bulatkan kebawah)
= 5m
53
Multi-Crane Lifts
Calculating Load Sharing: Menghitung Pembagian Beban:

Therefore, the load must be slung 3m from = 3m
the end of the equalising beam closest to Hasilnya beban harus di ikatkan 3 m dari

Next step is to calculate the minimum
capacity of the second crane ‘B’ that will be Langkah berikutnya adalah menghitung

dibutuhkan untuk mengangkat beban
• Step 6 – Divide total load by the length of tersebut
the equalising beam

Rolling or Sliding on Level Surface
When force is used to produce movement in a body some part of that force or effort
is lost by over coming friction.
Friction is caused by surface irregularities, type of material and molecular attraction.
When bodies are at rest the frictional force is known as “Limiting Friction”, when in
motion the frictional force is known as “Sliding Friction”.
Sliding Friction
The sliding resistance between flat level surfaces depends on the type of materials
in contact with each other and their surface finish. Lubrication between the surfaces
will considerably reduce friction. In theory frictional forces are independent of area,
but this is not true when the surfaces are lubricated the smaller contact area
reduces friction. Water is a good lubricant for large areas.
133
Rolling or Sliding on Level Surface
Example,
Find the effort required to move a 6 tonne load with solid steel rollers.
From the table - steel rollers require an effort of 70 kg – 90 kg per tonne on a
flat hard surface.
Effort required = 6 x 90 kg = 640 kg
