A. Removable prosthodontic
B. Common terminologies
A tooth, a portion of a tooth, or that portion of a dental implant that serves
to support and/ or retain a prosthesis
Retainer: The fixation device or any form of attachment applied
directly to an abutment tooth and used for the fixation of a prosthesis
is called a retainer e.g., clasps.
Tooth Supported Removable Partial Denture: A partial denture
that receives support from natural teeth at each end of the edentulous
space or spaces.
Distal Extension Denture Base: The denture base that extends
posteriorly without posterior support from natural teeth. They aretooth
tissue supported partial dentures.
Tooth-tissue Supported Removable Partial Denture: The denture
base that extends anteriorly or posteriorly and is supported by teeth at
one end and tissue on the other end. They are also calledDistal
extension partial dentures.
sentral, gigi seri lateral, gigi taring), (gigi seri lateral, gigi taring, gigi
premolar) dll.
Bila tidak ada gigi penyangga distal. Bahkan kantilever tunggal
umumnya tidak disukai.
Kehadiran beberapa ruang edentulous.
sebagian cekat)
Jumlah penyangga tidak mencukupi.
Loss Kehilangan jaringan yang parah.
D. Contraindition
Patients with a large tongue which tends to push the denture away.
Patient attitude: Mentally retarded patients cannot maintain a removable
prosthesis.
Poor oral hygiene: In such cases, any prosthesis is better avoided.
sebaiknya dihindari.
E. Clasification
To formulate a good treatment plan.
To anticipate the difficulties commonly to occur for that particular design.
To communicate with a professional about a case.
To design the denture according to the occlusal load usually expected for a
particular group.
b) Applegate’s Rules
o Rule One. Classification should follow rather than precede
extractions that might alter the original classification.
o Rule Two. If the third molar is missing and not to be
replaced, it is not considered in the classification.
o Rule Three. If the third molar is present and is to be used as
an abutment, it is considered in the classification.
o Rule Four. If the second molar is missing and is not to be
replaced, it is not considered in the classification.
o Rule Five. The most posterior edentulous area or areas
always determine the classification.
o Rule Six. Edentulous areas other than those, which determine
the classification, are referred to as modification spaces and
are designated by their number.
o Rule Seven. The extent of the modification is not considered,
only the number of additional edentulous areas, i.e. the
number of teeth missing in the modification spaces is not
considered only the number of additional edentulous spaces
are considered.
o Rule Eight. There can be no modification areas in class IV.
Because any additional edentulous space will definitely be
posterior to it and will determine the classification.
o Peraturan pertama. Klasifikasi harus mengikuti daripada
mendahului ekstraksi yang dapat mengubah klasifikasi asli.
o Peraturan Dua. Jika molar ketiga hilang dan tidak dapat
diganti, itu tidak dipertimbangkan dalam klasifikasi.
o Peraturan Tiga. Jika molar ketiga ada dan digunakan
sebagai penyangga, hal ini dipertimbangkan dalam
klasifikasi.
o Peraturan Empat. Jika molar kedua hilang dan tidak harus
diganti, itu tidak dipertimbangkan dalam klasifikasi.
o Peraturan Lima. Area edentulous yang paling posterior atau
area selalu menentukan klasifikasi.
o Peraturan Enam. Area edentulous selain yang menentukan
klasifikasi, disebut sebagai ruang modifikasi dan ditentukan
oleh nomornya.
o Peraturan Tujuh. Tingkat modifikasi tidak dipertimbangkan,
hanya jumlah area edentulous tambahan, yaitu jumlah gigi
o Peraturan Delapan. Tidak ada area modifikasi di kelas IV.
Karena ruang edentulous tambahan pasti akan posterior
dan akan menentukan klasifikasi.

F. Preparation Stage
Diagnosis: “The determination of the nature of the disease”
Evaluate certain conditions in the oral cavity. The diagnostic procedures
can generally be grouped into personality evaluation, clinical and
laboratory evaluation
Mouth preparation
Preprosthetic Procedures
The rest seat is a depression created usually on the occlusal surface of the
teeth to receive a rest
