Biography is a life story of a person written by someone else. There are more than basic facts, such as
education, work, relationships, and death. It contains subject’s life story, highlighting various aspects of
his or her life, including intimate details of experience, and may include an analysis of the subject’s
personality. So, biography is nonfiction.
It uses the pronouns: he, she, him, her, hers throughout the text. The tense used in the text is simple
past tense.

Text Structure:

In 1885, he married Louisa Hawkins, who suffered from tuberculosis and died on July 1906. Then
he married Jean Elizabeth Leckie. He had five children.

From 1878 to 1881 he went to the University of Edinburg to study medicine. While studying, he
also began writing short stories; his first published story appeared in Chambers’s Edinburg Journal
before he was 20. After his term at university, he served as a ship’s doctor on a voyage to the West
African coast.

On 7 July 1930, Conan Doyle died of heart attack in England.

So, in 1893, he decided to “kill” Holmes down a waterfall in the story, The Final Problem. However,
the readers protested and Conan Doyle finally brought the character back.

His first significant work was A Study in Scarlet, which was published in 1886 and where Sherlock
Holmes first appeared.

Arthur Conan Doyle was born on 22 May 1859, in Edinburg. He grew up in a large family since he
had 9 brothers and sisters.

Holmes returned in The Adventure of the Empty House in 1903.
