Assalaamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabaraakath.

Alhamdulillah, Puji dan syukur kami panjatkan kepada Allah SWT., karena atas
bimbinganNya kami dapat menyelesaikan penulisan Buku Unit Kegiatan Belajar Mandiri
(UKBM) bagi Peserta Didik MAN 2 Model Medan.

Buku ini disusun sesuai dengan acuan Pelaksanaan Program Madrasah Berbasis SKS yang
merujuk pada Keputusan Menteri Agama (KMA) Republik Indonesia Nomor 347 Tahun
2022 Tentang Pedoman Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka Pada Madrasah dan Keputusan
Direktur Jenderal Pendidikan Islam Nomor 2852 Tahun 2019 Tentang Petunjuk Teknis
Penyelenggaraan Sistem Kredit Semester Madrasah Aliyah, dengan memperhatikan segala
aspek dan kesiapan sehingga Buku Unit Kegiatan Belajar Mandiri (UKBM) ini dapat
diselesaikan dengan baik.

Untuk itu, dengan adanya Buku Unit Kegiatan Belajar Mandiri (UKBM) ini diharapkan
dapat meningkatkan kapasitas peserta didik dalam mengikuti pembelajaran di kelas dan
dapat memberikan arah dan manfaat yang besar bagi kemajuan peserta didik kedepan.

Terimakasih kepada Bapak Ibu Guru dan Tim Penyusun, Tim Reviewer, Tim Setting, Layout,

KATA PENGANTAR

Bismillahirrahmaanirrahiim. Assalaamualaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.


Segala Puji bagi Allah SWT yang telah memberikan rahmat dan hidayah-Nya sehingga Buku
Unit Kegiatan belajar Mandiri (UKBM) Peserta Didik MAN 2 Model Medan dapat
diselesaikan dengan baik. Buku Unit Kegiatan Belajar Mandiri (UKBM) ini merupakan
salah satu bentuk implementasi pelaksanaan Sistem Kredit Semester (SKS) di lingkungan
MAN 2 Model Medan Tahun Pelajaran 2022/2023 dan sebagai upaya untuk peningkatan
kapasitas peserta didik agar pembelajaran dapat berjalan sesuai dengan harapan bersama.

Penyusunan Buku Unit Kegiatan Belajar Mandiri (UKBM) ini tidak terlepas dari dukungan
dan kerjasama yang sangat baik dari para dewan guru dan pihak terkait. Oleh karena itu,

1) General guideline of learning unit

a. Through this learning unit, you will develop your skill in oral and written of how
to state self introduction. You will be directed through some situational context.
This is meant at giving you the opportunity to enhance your analytical skill and
critical thinking toward the situation around. Therefore, you are required not
only mastering only for the knowledge about the language express in, but also
the way how you have to use it in its proper context both oral and witten. You
need to set yourself patiently, and prepare yourself of the way you think critically
the situation around.
b. Read through the material from this source: Buku Bahasa Inggris Kelas XI karya
Makhrukh Basir yang diterbitkan oleh Kementrian Pendidikan Nasional edisi revisi
tahun 2017 and other sources
c. Do this learning unit in the worksheet or directly answer and do the given
instruction in the space provided. In one occasion you are requested to work of
your own, but the other will make you in group work, therefore set yourself for
good cooperation with your friend.

Kita menggunakan Simple Present Tense untuk mengungkapkan kejadian atau


peristiwa yang selalu benar terjadi atau kebenaran umum. Untuk lebih
memahaminya, bacalah dialog di bawah ini.

Niwat : Can you give me some examples?


Shopie : Yes, of course. We use the present simple to talk about things which are
repeated every day, every week, every year, etc.
- I usually get up at 7 o'clock.
- During the week I have swimming practice on Mondays, I do
taekwondo on Tuesdays and tennis on Thursdays.
- We always go on holiday in the summer.
Niwat : I see. And you use words for explaining more about the time too.
Shopie : Yes, we often use adverbs of frequency sometimes, often, usually or
other time expressions like on Sturdays, twice a week or in the winter.
Niwat : What about permanent states? What does it mean?
Shopie : Permanent states are situations or feelings which are not temporary.
Take a look at the example.
- I like him a lot.
- My mother works as a travel writer.
- They live in Jakarta.
- We also use the present simple for general facts, for example when
talking about science or geography.
- Thailand is really hot at this time of year.
- Snakes live on the ground, in trees and in water.
Niwat : So what do I need to know about forming the present simple?
Shopie : The main thing is that the third person singular forms end in -s or -es.
That's for he, she or it.
- He watches black and white films at his cinema club on Wednesdays.
- He thinks chess is a sport!
Niwat : OK, and the other forms don't end in -s or -es? I watch TV a lot. We think
Coldplay are boring.
Shopie : Excellent!
Niwat : What about questions and negatives?
Shopie : For most verbs we use the present simple of the verb do/does + subject
+ infinitive without to to form questions.
- Do you see him on Wednesdays then?
- Does Jack like sports?
For negatives we use the subject + do/does + not + infinitive without to.
- Daisy and Jack don't go out together much at the weekend.
- I don't think Coldplay are boring.
Niwat : To go back to the idea of permanent and temporary things, what about
this sentence: Is your mum in Thailand this week? Isn't that temporary?
Shopie : Yes, it is. That's a very good point. Normally we use the present simple
for permanent states, and the present continuous for temporary states,
but some verbs are thought of as State Verbs and they are not usually
used in the continuous form.
Niwat : And the verb to be is one of those verbs?
Shopie : Exactly! So even though staying in Thailand is temporary, we use the
present simple with the verb to be. Here's another example:
- How's Daisy? Is she with you?
Niwat : But that isn't the question form you just told me about! Where's the do?
Shopie : Ah, no. I said 'for most verbs we use do in questions'. The verb to be is
different and so are modal verbs like can. We'll look at the verb to be
separately because it's different and very common.

Niwat : What are the other state verbs?


Shopie : We'll look at those when we look at the Present Continuous. Any more
questions?
Niwat : Yes, what about: The train leaves at 5 in the morning? Isn't that talking
about an event in the future?
Shopie : Yes, it is, but it's also a repeated event. This is sometimes called the
'timetable future'.
Niwat : OK, I have a maths class in a minute, so I have to go.
Shopie : Good use of the 'timetable future'!

Dari dialog di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa Simple Present Tense:


1. digunakan untuk mengungkapkan hal-hal yang dilakukan berulang-ulang setiap
hari, setiap minggu, setiap tahun dsb. Contoh:
- I usually get up at 7 o'clock.
- During the week I have swimming practice on Mondays, I do taekwondo on
Tuesdays and tennis on Thursdays.
- We always go on holiday in the summer.
2. Menggunakan adverbs of frequency sometimes, often, usually atau time
expressions yang lain, misalnya on Sturdays, twice a week or in the winter.
3. Digunakan untuk mengungkapkan Permanent states, yaitu keadaan adat
perasaan yang tidak bersifat sementara. Contoh:
- I like him a lot.
- My mother works as a travel writer.
- They live in Jakarta.
4. Digunakan untuk kebenaran umum, contohnya untuk ilmu pengetahuan atau
geografi.
- Thailand is really hot at this time of year.
- Snakes live on the ground, in trees and in water.
5. Menggunakan kata kerja yang ditambah –s atau –es untuk subject he, she atau it.
Contoh:
- He watches black and white films at his cinema club on Wednesdays.
- He thinks chess is a sport!
6. Menggunakan do/does + subject + infinitive tanpa to untuk kalimat pertanyaan.
Contoh:
- Do you see him on Wednesdays then?
- Does Jack like sports?
7. Menggunakan subject + do/does + not + infinitive tanpa to untuk kalimat
negative. Contoh:
- Daisy and Jack don't go out together much at the weekend.
- I don't think Coldplay are boring.
