Greeting in English Context

Greeting is the first word you learn. Greeting tell people that you want to communicate with them.
Greeting is one way to maintain good relationship with others. Greeting means welcoming other
people. It can also lead to a conversation. Business greetings or greetings among strangers are
formal. On the other side, greetings among friends and family members are informal or casual.
People usually slow down their activity, smile, or wave their hands as they greet other people. They
will stop doing their activity if they want to talk more.
Greeting is usually followed by asking condition. It is more likely to maintain relationship. It is not
mainly used to ask condition. At the end of the conversation, people usually have leave taking
expression or say good bye. It is a polite way to end a talk.
Pay attention to the dialogues
1. Read the dialogues and find some expressions used to greet people.

Mrs. Wijaya: I'm fine. Thank you for asking.
Mr. Sanjaya: Do you have a class to teach this morning? Mrs. Wijaya: Yes, I do. Do you have a
class, too?
Mr. Sanjaya: Yes. Well. Good bye. Mrs. Wijaya: See you later.

Example of greeting in an informal context:
