Adolescents face many reproductive health problems due to risky behavior. One
strategy to increase adolescent knowledge about reproductive health is through health
education. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of health education using the
health belief model (HBM) approach toward increasing adolescent reproductive health
knowledge at MTs N 3 Padangsidimpuan.This research was a quantitative study, the
research design was used a quasi-experimental design method with two group pretest
and posttest design, the population were all students from VII to IX grade of MTsN 3
Padangsidimpuan about 248 people, the sample in this study were 153 respondents
which was divided into the intervention group and the control group, the method of
sampling used purposive sampling, the research was conducted on January 2023 and
the research instrument used a questionnaire. The results showed that there was an
increase in knowledge after the intervention of health education using the health belief
model (HBM) approach to the intervention group and the control group. The
effectiveness of health education using the health belief model (HBM) approach to
perceived vulnerability in the level of adolescent reproductive health knowledge with p
value = 0.000 <0.05. For perceived seriousness p value = 0.000, for perceived benefits
p value = 0.000, for perceived barriers p value = 0.000 and for self-ability p value =
0.000. The conclusion from this study was that health education using the health belief
model (HBM) approach was effective in increasing adolescent reproductive health
knowledge.
