Artinya apa yang menjadi maksud dan tujuan dari si penulis membuat teks tersebut atau mengapa
si penulis teks menuliskan teks tersebut.

Pertanyaan ini selintas mirip dengan pertanyaan seputar tujuan teks (purpose of the text) namun
yang membedakan adalah jika tujuan penulis (author’s purpose) lebih spesifik dan mengarah ke
objek pembahasan teks maka tujuan teks lebih seragam/baku untuk tiap tiap teks. Kita pahami
