Pendahuluan
 Pendahuluan
Penyakit kulit sering terjadi di Indonesia karena Indonesia ialah
negara dengan beriklim tropis akibatnya mempengaruhi perkembangan
parasit, bakteri, jamur, dan virus. Gejala kulit merupakan infeksi kulit
dapat menyebabkan timbulnya reaksi infeksi serta merasa gatal, dan
terjadinya inflamasi.
Sulfur atau belerang merupakan unsur kimia murni non-logam yang
tersedia di alam. Sulfur telah lama digunakan sebagai sediaan topikal atau
sediaan yang digunakan di kulit. Mekanisme kerja sulfur pada terapi
jerawat dan sebarrhoik dermatitis adalah keratolitik. Sulfur juga memiliki
aktivitas sebagai anti seboroik, anti-akne, anti-skabies, anti bakteri, dan
anti jamur (Hutagaol, 2018).

 Definsi
Sulfur atau belerang merupakan unsur kimia murni non-logam yang
tersedia di alam. Sulfur telah lama digunakan sebagai sediaan topikal atau
sediaan yang digunakan di kulit. Mekanisme kerja sulfur pada terapi
jerawat dan sebarrhoik dermatitis adalah keratolitik. Sulfur juga memiliki
aktivitas sebagai anti seboroik, anti-akne, anti-skabies, anti bakteri, dan
anti jamur (Hutagaol, 2018).

Belerang pertama kali dibuat pada tahun 1888 oleh Debus dan Sven
Odén pada tahun 1911 melakukan penyelidikan lebih lanjut terhadap
belerang ini. Belerang sering digunakan untuk aplikasi lokal pada kulit
bertahun-tahun sebelum dermatologi menjadi spesialisasi yang diakui.
 Mekanisme Kerja Sulfur Pada Kulit

Sulfur diduga berinteraksi dengan sistein pada keratinosit. Sistein

merupakan salah satu asam amino yang terkandung dalam stratum
korneum yang memiliki peran penting pada proses keratinisasi normal.
Sulfur juga memiliki aktivitas sebagai antifungi. Ketika diaplikasikan di
kulit, sulfur akan dikonversikan menjadi asam pentathionat oleh bakteri
yang ada di kulit dan keratinosit. Selain itu, aktivitas keratolitik dari
sulfur juga dapat membantu menghilangkan jamur dan bakteri dari
stratum korneum (Hutagaol, 2018).
 Mekanisme Kerja Sulfur Pada Kulit

Sulfur juga memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Antioksidan merupakan

senyawa yang dapat melakukan penyerapan adanya radikal bebas serta
melakukan pencegahan munculnya penyakit degeneratif. Antioksidan
berperan dalam menjaga kesehatan kulit dan meningkatkan pertahanan
tubuh untuk menetralisir radikal bebas. Antioksidan bekerja dengan cara
mendonorkan elektron ke senyawa yang bersifat oksidan, sehingga dapat
menghambat aktivitas oksidan tersebut. Keseimbangan oksidan dan
antioksidan sangat penting karena berkaitan dengan berfungsinya sistem
kekebalan tubuh (Parwata, 2016).

Menurut penelitian yang dilakukan oleh irwan (2015)
mengenai kandungan belerang yang terdapat pada sabun,
belerang memilki khasiat sebagai antibakteri dan antiparasit
yang sering digunakan pada produk-produk sebagai terapi acne
(jerawat) dan Scabies dalam bentuk sabun, pembersih wajah,
salep dan krim dengan konsentrasi sampai 10%.
Efek Samping
Efek samping yang dapat ditimbulkan pada
penggunaan sabun sulfur adalah iritasi pada
kulit jika penggunaannya sangat berlebihan
dan pada orang hipersensitivitas, serta
kekeringan pada kulit yang berlebihan
(Adlia, et al., 2019).
 Interaksi Sulfur
Asam salisilat sering dikombinasikan dengan ter maupun
sulfur dalam vehikulum vaselin. Kombinasi asam salisilat
dengan sulfur memiliki efek sinergistik yaitu meningkatkan
aktivitas keduanya sebagai bahan keratolitik dan antipruritus.
Pada pasien dermatitis seboroik dan psoriasis, berbagai
sampo terapeutik mengandung asam salisilat 2-3%, serta
kombinasi sulfur dan ter. Sampo tersebut cukup efektif dalam
mengatasi psoriasis pada skalp dan dermatitis seboroik.
 Kesimpulan
Sulfur memiliki aktivitas antibakteri, antijamur, antivirus, dan keratolitik selain
aktivitas anti tumornya di bidang biomedis. Sulfur digunakan untuk pengelolaan
berbagai penyakit dermatologis seperti kudis, jerawat, dan ketombe. Sulfur juga
memiliki aktivitas sebagai antifungi. Mekanisme kerja sulfur dalam bidang
dermatologi bervariasi, dapat ditentukan dari jenis penyakit dan apa hasil yang
diharapkan. Sediaan sulfur dapat berupa sabun, pembersih wajah, salep dan
krim dengan konsentrasi sampai 10%.
