CONDITIONAL SENTENCE TYPE 1

A. Pengertian
Conditional sentence type 1 atau first conditional adalah conditional
sentence yang digunakan ketika result/consequence (hasil) dari condition
(syarat) memiliki kemungkinan untuk terwujud di masa depan karena condition-
nya realistik untuk dipenuhi. Condition berada di dalam subordinate clause
dengan subordinate conjunction “if”, sedangkan result/consequence berada di
dalam main clause.

B. Using
 The first conditional is used for more than just talking about future events.
We need to explore common communicative functions of the first conditional
such as making promises and negotiating.
 We use the first conditional to talk about the result of an imagined future
situation, when we believe the imagined situation is quite likely.
 It’s used to talk about things which might happen in the future. Of course, we
can’t know what will happen in the future, but this describes possible things,
which could easily come true.
 We use first conditional when talking about possible future events.
 Talking about possible future events is a general communicative function.
There are specific functions of the first conditional which we should explore.

C. Rumus Conditional Sentence Type 1

Bagian conditional clause (if + condition) menggunakan simple present tense,
sedangkan bagian main clause (result) menggunakan simple future tense “will”
atau imperative (bare infinitive atau infinitive tanpa to).

If-clause dapat menempati awal atau tengah kalimat. Ketika if-clause menempati
awal kalimat, koma ditempatkan sebelum main clause. If … not dapat digantikan
dengan unless.

Conditional Sentence Type I

Conditional sentence type I adalah pernyataan kalimat yang merujuk pada hal-hal
dengan mungkin akan terjadi di masa depan. Di mana, situasi kemungkinan tersebut
real atau nyata. Kejadian yang dinyatakan memiliki dua kemungkinan, yaitu dapat
terjadi atau dapat juga tidak terjadi.

ika if clause terpenuhi, maka kejadian yang dinyatakan dalam main clause akan terjadi.
Sebaliknya, jika if clause tidak terpenuhi maka kejadian main clause tidak akan terjadi.

Pola conditional sentence type I diberikan seperti gambar di bawah.

Contoh kalimat conditional sentence type I:

1. I can submit the assigment tomorrow if I finish it today. (Saya bisa

mengumpulkan tugas besok jika saya menyelesaikannya hari ini.)
2. Today is rain, you will get wet if you don’t use the raincoat. (Hari ini hujan, kamu
akan basah jika tidak memakai jas hujan.)
3. If you don’t hurry, you will miss the bus. (Jika kamu tidak cepat-cepat, maka
kamu akan ketinggalan bus.)
4. My little sister will be happy if my mother buy a chocolate for her. (Adik
perempuanku akan senang jika ibuku membelikan coklat untuknya.)
5. I ask you to call me if you see my brother. (Saya meminta kamu menelpon saya
jika kamu melihat kakak saya.)
