refer to, berikut adalah jawaban saya:

Refer to adalah salah satu bentu phrasal verb (frase kata kerja) yang dalam
bahasa Indonesia bisa diartikan “merujuk kepada”. Refer to sebagai kata lain
yang digunakan untuk merujuk kepada seseorang atau sesuatu yang sudah
disebutkan sebelumnya. Refer to bisa digunakan untuk merujuk pada orang
(somebody), benda hidup (living things), benda mati (things), suatu hal
(something).
Refer to memiliki beberapa fungsi yaitu:
- Digunakan untuk merujuk kepada sesuatu atau seseorang.
- Digunakan ketika kita berbicara dengan seseorang dan lawan bicara kita
membahas sesuatu tanpa menyebut objek yang jelas maka kita bisa
menggunakan Refer to dalam artian 'siapa yang dimaksud?' atau 'apa
yang dimaksud?'
- Digunakan untuk melihat rujukan dalam hal informasi atau referensi
(untuk refer to something).

Sehingga Refer to terdiri dari refer to somebody/living things dan refer to

something.

Contoh:
- I wish I had an older sister instead of a younger brother, because my friend
Jamila’s got an older sister and she’s really nice.
Kata “she” dalam kalimat di atas mengacu ke “Jamila’s older sister”.
- The angel of the strom is coming, his wings spread from the sky above to the
earth beneath. He will strike you down before you can cry for mercy.
Kata “he” dalam kalimat di atas mengacu ke “The angel”.
- At the June 1860 public debate held at Oxford, with more than 700 persons
crowded into a lecture room. Darwin was conspicuously absent. It was his
longtime friends and supporters Joseph Hooker and Darwin’s bulldog Thomas

Kata “his” dalam paragraf tersebut mengacu ke “Darwin”.

Kata “it” dalam paragraf di atas mengacu ke “the clock”.
