ABSTRACT
The quality of life of people with diabetes mellitus will affect the productivity of
the sufferer when it is not appropriately managed and has the risk to decrease the
quality of life. This study aimed to indicate the relationship between self-care and
the quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus. This study used a cross-
sectional design with a population of all people with diabetes mellitus who went
to the UPTD Public Health Center of Juang City, Bireuen for the January-May
period as many as 82 respondents. A total sampling technique was used where the
entire population was sampled. The measuring instrument used is a Summary of
Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire and a Diabetes Quality Of
Life (DQOL) questionnaire. Data analysis used in this research is univariate and
bivariate analysis. This study's results indicate a relationship between Self Care
and the quality of life of diabetes mellitus patients at the Juang City Health
Center, Bireuen with a P-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05. Based on the research, it can
be concluded that there is a correlation between self-care and the quality of life of
patients with diabetes mellitus. It is expected for people with diabetes mellitus to
carry out Self Care optimally by regularly taking medication, regulating their diet,
controlling their blood sugar, performing foot care, and doing physical activity to
reduce the risk of complications of diabetes mellitus.
