caption terkait gambar secara benar dan sesuai konteks serta memiliki sikap disiplin,
kreatif, mandiri, bekerja sama dan tanggung jawab

Objectives:
Through learning activities and assignments in TASK 1, the students are able to match some
pictures with their appropriate captions

1. In pairs, look at the following pictures!
2. Match them with the appropriate captions in the right box!
3. Pay attention to the sentence structure of the captions.
4. Discuss with your seatmate!

A. GRAMMAR REVIEW
 Phrase is an expression consisting of two or more words forming a grammatical constituent of a sentence.
 Noun Phrase is a group of words that consists of several words with one noun is modified by the other
words.
 It can function as the subject or object of a verb
 Participle phrases (Present and Past Participle). Participle phrases are shortened dependent clauses that
use a present participle or past participle. By using participle phrases, we can include a lot of information in
a sentence without making it too long or complicated.
 In Present participle (-ing form) we show that both actions are taking place at the same time OR we show a
cause and effect relationship (because)
• Present participle (-ing form) shows that both actions are taking place at the same time.
e.g.: Holding the hair-dryer in her left hand, Susan cut her hair with the scissors in her right hand.
Long form: Susan was holding the hair-dryer in her left hand and cutting her hair with the scissors in her
right hand
• Present participle (-ing form) shows a cause and effect relationship
e.g. Being unable to afford a car, she bought a motorbike.
Long form: Because she was unable to buy a car , she bought a motorbike.
• Past Participle can be used to shorten a passive voice.
e.g.: Blown to the right by the hair-dryer, her hair could easily be cut.
Long form: Her hair was blown to the right by the hair-dryer, so that her hair could be easily cut.

Steps to write a good caption:

Photo without captions is
like book without a title.
You may have got the right
photo but expressing your
feelings behind it plays
major role in your overall
interaction with the photo.
People look for the photo
and then read the caption
to understand the context
1. Gather information about the photo/video:
This involves collecting data about the photo like where, when and why the
photo was captured. Is there any special motive behind it? Also ask yourself
what is happening in the photo. Express it accordingly without a hyperbole.
2. Write the perfect caption!
Based on step 1, you may have figured out what to write. Just write it down
and try to express it as a mini-story. Then check necessary grammar and
spelling mistakes.
Yes! Good captions take long time to draft. But as you write, you will surely
master the art of writing good captions.

1. Cutline
This caption mentions about who are the subjects in the picture or
photos and what activity they do.
2. Identification bar
The caption only mentions about subject in the picture
3. Summary
Full explanation about subject, activity, time detail, location detail
and why it’s happened.
4. Expanded
Longer version of summary caption. This also include how the event
occurred.
5. Quote
Consist of someone’s word which has been quoted related to the
picture or photos.
6. Group Identification
Used to identify when subjects are more than one.
