 KONSEP
• Inaktivasi mikroorganisme secara kimia maupun fisika bersifat eksponensial
• Ada kemungkinan secara statistic masih ada bakteri yang bertahan hidup
• Kemungkinan bertahan hidup ditentukan oleh: jumlah, tipe, dan resistensi
m.o. yang ada di lingkungan selama proses perlakuan
 STERILITY ASSURANCE LEVEL
• Merupakan tingkat jaminan dari proses yang dilakukan untuk
mempertahankan populasi dan item steril
• SAL merupakan probabilitas suatu item non steril yang terdapat dalam
populasi
• Contoh: SAL 10-6 berarti menyatakan kemungkinan bahwa TIDAK LEBIH dari
1 m.o yang bertahan hidup dalam 1x106 item yang disterilkan.
• SAL dari suatu proses untuk produk tertentu ditetapkan melalui penelitian
validasi yang sesuai

• Bioburden of your product
• Resistance to the sterilizing agent of that bioburden
• The amount of sterilizing agent applied
Bioburden: the number of organisms present on a device/product.
The D-value is the amount of sterilizing agent necessary to reduce the
population by 90%.
Fo: a measure of thermal lethality. In simplest terms, it is the equivalent
exposure time at 121.1 C, calculated using the actual exposure time at
variable temperature.
 EXAMPLE OF PROBLEM
A medical device contains 103 CFU (bioburden) of Bacillus subtilis.
The D121-value of B. subtilis was found to be 1.0.
The device is autoclaved for 12 minutes at 121.1C. The resulting Fo was found
to be 10.0.
