FACTS:
Transportation infrastructure and services are affecting
mobility
and are the prerequisite to development
Transport is one of the largest consumers of Worlds
energy and
estimated to be the future largest consumer
Transport is the significant contributor of emission and
pollution
and is accused to have detrimental effects on
physical
and social health.
In most countries, transportation infrastructure and services
have high percentage in their national budget
Transport requires multi disciplinary and multi sectoral
approach
Main issues
how do urban structures affect travel
behaviour,
what parameters affect the way people travel
and the choice of destinations,
to what extent those parameters affecting
travel behaviour,
to what extent the change of those parameters
affecting the use of energy consumption.

Conclusions
Conclusions
Kuala Lumpur has been the city with the highest extent of urban
relocation. At the other end are Jakarta and Surabaya with virtually
no change in the employment location with response to all measures.
The level of personal energy consumption in Bangkok and Kuala
Lumpur are at the top end of the four cities with Bangkok has a
better usage of public transport.
In Kuala Lumpur high energy consumption is due to high
motorisation rate in the country.
The extent of energy consumption in Surabaya and Jakarta although
both remain among the lowest, should be carefully maintained
because they have the high potential for urban sprawl, creating
megacities with high temptation for higher mobility.
Further Research
Conceptual Issue - Improved approach to include
the complication of different quality of infrastructure
services,
treatments for different state of the citys economy
and the captivity of transport modes.
Imperfect employment supply and demand.
Technical Issue
Technical issues include data availability and
standardised data - different definitions on urban
areas and zones
The model also suffered from limitations on the
number of zones and algorithm techniques
