Penundaan operasi elektif selain meningkatkan kejadian kematian juga

meningkatkan resiko operasi ulang, memerlukan perawatan intensif (ICU), dan


komplikasi post operasi yang meningkat.

Pembatalan dan penundaan selain membuang waktu sumber daya yang telah
disiapkan dan berdampak pada penurunkan utilisasi kamar operasi yang
mengakibatkan kerugian rumah sakit. Pembatalan operasi juga berdampak pada
gangguan psikologis pasien yaitu gangguan cemas hingga depresi sehingga
memerlukan perawatan tambahan yang berdampak terjadi peningkatan biaya yang
dikeluarkan (Scofield, 2005), pada akhirnya pembatalan operasi akan menurunkan
kepuasan pasien.

Penyebab penundaan operasi meliputi pasien terlambat diantar dari


ruang rawat inap dengan alasan kurang tenaga; pasien terlambat datang
( yang tidak rawat inap); keterlambatan operator; operasi sebelumnya
memanjang; adminstrasi terutama yang berhubungan dengan jaminan
kesehatan yang belum lengkap.
