 Pengertian News Item Text

News item text adalah suatu teks yang menginformasikan pembaca tentang peristiwa/kejadian sehari-hari
yang layak diberitakan atau penting. Newsworthy yang berati layak untuk diberitakan, jadi tidak semua
kejadian/peristiwa bisa diberitakan. Hanya kejadian atau peristiwa penting saja yang layak diberitakan.
Jika peristiwa/kejadian itu tidak penting maka tidak layak untuk diberitakan dan diketahui banyak orang.
 Purpose of News Item Text
“The purpose of news item text is to inform the readers about newsworthy or important events
of the day.”
Tujuan news items text adalah untuk menginformasikan pembaca tentang peristiwa/kejadian
sehari-hari yang layak untuk diberitakan atau penting.
 Structure of News Item Text
1) Main Event/Newsworthy Event: adalah berita utama, bagian yang menceritakan ringkasan
dari suatu kejadian atau peristiwa penting yang terjadi.
2) Background Event/Elaboration: menceritakan secara rinci latar belakang kejadian atau
peristiwa yang terjadi, siapa yang terlibat, dimana dan bagaimana peristiwa terjadi.
3) Source: bagian terakhir dari struktur news item text, merupakan sumber berita bisa berupa
pernyataan narasumber, komentar saksi, pendapat para ahli, atau pernyataan dari pihak
terkait dari suatu peristiwa.
 Linguistic Features / Ciri-ciri kebahasaan
1) Short, Pendek dan singkat berisi informasi tentang cerita yang terpampang di judul
2) Using action verbs, menggunakan kata kerja aksi. Ex : Hit (memukul), Crash (menabrakan),
walk (berjalan), run (berlari) etc.
3) Using saying verbs, menggunakan kata kerja ungkapan. Ex : stated (dinyatakan), said
(dikatakan), expressed (diungkapkan) etc
4) Using Passive voices, menggunakan kalimat pasif. Ex : The building was built years ago
(Gedung itu sudah dibangun bertahun-tahun yang lalu)
5) Using adverb of time, place and manner, menggunakan keterangan waktu, tempat dan cara

Elaboration The dead people were a 3-year-old child,

Indonesia men’s singles shuttler Jonatan “Jojo” Christie has won the country’s first
badminton gold after defeating Taipei’s Chou Tienchen in a tight final on Tuesday, causing the
home crowd to erupt in cheers at the packed 5000 seat Gelora Bung Karbo (GBK) main stadium
in Senayan, Jakarta.
World No. 15 Jonatan stunned world No. 6 Chou with a 21 – 15 victory in the rubber
match. The shuttlers had tied 21-18, 20-22 in the two previous games.
Jojo dominated the first game before losing narrowly to Chou, who rebounded in the
second game. In the third and deciding game, the 20-year-old Indonesia shuttler closed with a
historic win and celebrated his gold medal by taking off his shirt.
Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security
Affairs Minister Wiranto – who also chairs the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) – and
Health Minister Nila F. Moeloek attended the much-anticipated match that attracted viewers
across the nation.
Meanwhile, Indonesia men’s singles shuttler Anthony Ginting shared the bronze medal
with Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto after losing in Monday’s semifinals.
