Deskripsi Mata Kuliah :

Perkuliahan ini diperuntukkan bagi mahasiswa UNY untuk mengembangkan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris akademik yang dapat digunakan untuk
mempelajari bidang studi mereka. Mahasiswa akan belajar tentang keterampilan belajar di perguruan tinggi dan strategi membaca teks akademik
berbahasa inggris. Mahasiswa akan membaca teks akademik dengan menerapkan strategi-strategi belajar yang dipelajarinya

Capaian Pembelajaran Mata Kuliah (CP- Mata Kuliah):


Sikap:
a. bertakwa kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa;
b. menjunjung tinggi dan menginternalisasi nilai etika akademik;
c. menghargai pandangan, budaya, pendapat, dan temuan orang lain;
d. berkontribusi dalam kemajuan dunia akademik;

Pengetahuan:
a. Menunjukkan pemahaman tentang fungsi Bahasa Inggris dalam belajar di perguruan tinggi.
b. Menunjukkan pemahaman tentang berbagai macam strategi membaca akademik.
c. Menunjukkan pemahaman tentang berbagai pendekatan belajar di Perguruan tinggi (PT).
d. Menunjukkan pemahaman tentang belajar mandiri di PT.
e. Menunjukkan pemahaman tentang etika akademik dalam belajar di PT.
f. Menunjukkan pemahaman bagaimana mencari informasi yang valid untuk kepentingan studi di PT.
g. Menunjukkan pemahaman bagaimana membuat catatan untuk kepentingan study di PT.
h. Menunjukkan pemehaman bagaimana menulis paper/essay/laporan hasil kegiatan membaca.
i. Menunjukkan pemahaman bagaimana melakukan presentasi hasil kegiatan membaca.
j. Menunjukkan pemahaman tentang bentuk-bentuk dan fungsi cohesive devices dalam teks
k. Menunjukkan pemahaman tentang bentuk-bentuk dan fungsi discourse markers dalam teks

Keterampilan:
a. Mampu menangkap makna dari kalimat-kalimat kompleks dalam teks dengan cara menguraikan kalimat komplek menjadi bagian-
bagian lebih kecil sehingga memudahkan pemahaman terhadap teks yang dibaca, yang meliputi:
- bagaimana menemukan kalimat dasar/main clause dari kalimat kompleks,
- bagaimana menemukan elemen-elemen struktur kalimat simple,
- bagaimana menemukan sub clauses dalam kalimat kompleks,
- mengidentifikasi noun phrases dalam kalimat,
- menjelaskan komponen-komponen dari noun phrases,
- menjelaskan word formation with affixes,
- menjelaskan parts of speech dan fungsinya dalam kalimat,
- mengidentifikasi word references dalam teks.

b. Mampu menebak makna kata baru dengan memanfaatkan konteks

l. Mampu membuat ringkasan dari teks yang dibaca.
m. Mampu menemukan tujuan teks/maksud penulis dalam tulisan/teksnya.
n. Mampu menebak makna kata baru dengan memanfaatkan konteks dan bentuk kata.
o. Mampu membedakan antara fakta dan pendapat.
p. Mampu mengidentifikasi informasi penting dan yang tidak penting dari teks.

Rules of conduct

1. About online class:


♣ Enroll into online course in Besmart before the 2nd meeting
♣ Download all the materials (if any), print them out, and always bring them with you to the class
♣ You are responsible for your own academic progress. Pay attention to the syllabus, especially the date and the instruction of
assignments.
♣ If you don’t bring the material to the class, your teacher will be forced to get out of the class

2. About attendance:
♣ You are expected to attend minimum of 12 meetings
♣ You may skip classes for whatever reason but no more than 4 times in total. If you exceed this limit, you are required to submit 1)
doctor’s letter, 2) letters from parents or guardian, or 3) letters from your university/head of the faculty as a proof that you were
indeed sick or away on important event.
♣ Please be on time. You are given lenience only 10 minutes after the class has started. Your lecturer will mark you as ‘abstain’ if
you arrive late for more than 10 minutes but you may still join the class.
♣ There is no extra point for attendance; only class participation.

3. About assignment:
♣ Please submit your assignment on time.
♣ If you decided to skip class, you must still submit your assignment via Besmart or email within 1 week. Notify your teacher if this
happens
♣ If you decide to send your late assignment via email, mention 1) your name, 2) your class, and 3) the name of your assignment as
the subject of you email.
♣ Late submission will earn you point reduction by 20% of the total points for that assignment.
♣ Keep a record of your assignment. Do not lose the file.

4. About grades:
♣ The grading system is very transparent. You may access and look at your grades anytime online.
♣ You may discuss your grade with your lecturer before the final exam.
♣ No remedial task or lesson unless your teacher decides so
