Text for number 38 to 40

In this modern area, there are still some parents who are hesitant about sending their daughters to
college. The narrow attitude shown to women’s education is largely due to the traditional role of women
in society. A woman is expected to be a wife and a mother. Most parents believe that if their daughter
gets married and does not pursue a career but instead chooses to be a housewife, then the higher
education will be a waste. However, an educated woman is not only a better wife but also contributes to
society.
Nowadays, more and more women are successfully combining career and marriage. Educated
women are richer both emotionally and financially. They are able to find an outlet outside the drudgery
monotony of their homes. They bring more satisfaction and contentment to their lives.
Depriving girls of higher education is crass discrimination. Times have changed; modern’s
society needs the talents of its peope regardless of gender. Today, women work alongside men. In fact,
in the last few decades, women have made outstanding contributions to society.
Women should be giving the freedom to be educated whether or not they get married or go to
work after finishing their education because it is only through education that a woman will find herself
useful and discover what she wants in life. A woman who work is not an insult to her husband.
Conversely, her husband should feel proud of her achievements since marriage is actually an equal
partnership.
Therefore, parents should not think that girls should receive less education just because they will
get married one day.

D. It is through education that a woman will find herself useful and discover what she wants in
life
E. A husband would want his wife to be the sole breadwinner

40. The main idea of paragraph one is......

A. The traditional role of women in society
B. The advantage of education for women
C. The benefit of the education
D. The disadvantage of the career women
E. Women has the equal right as men

Text for number 41 to 43

If you want to advance in your career, you will have to make some carefull decisions about
which jobs to take. Evaluate a job offer for the value it has to your career. It may mean sacrifice at first.
You may have to move to a different region or a different country to get a job that is right for you. You
may have to work late hours, at least temporarily. You might even have to take lower salary for a job
that offers you the experience that you need. But you should never accept a job if it is not related to your
career goals.
Accepting a job that is not within your career path will not give you the training or experience
you need or want. You will find yourself frustated in such a position and consequently will not perform
your best. This will have an effect on the people around you who will not feel as if you are being part of
the team. The best advice is to think carefully before accepting any position and make sure that job is the
one you want to have.
41. What is the most significant factor in evaluating a job?

Infotainment Programs: Pro and Contra

Do you like news which reveals the life of celebrities? If you do, then you must enjoy watching
infotainment programs on TV. Many people condemn the content of the infotainment programs.
However, the TV ratings show that an infotainment program is one of the ‘most watched’ TV programs.
People who fond of infotainment programs believe that the content of infotainment program are
based on the fact and can encourage celebrities to do positive things in public. They also believe that
journalists of these programs always try to find the truth behind the gossip. Moreover, celebrities need
such programs to promote their profile. These programs give a room for mutual needs: reporters and
celebrities. Reporters need the story, while celebrities need fame.
Nevertheless, there are also some people who strongly object to the good point of infotainment
programs. They say that infotainment programs are merely about slandering another person. Sometimes,
the program goes too far into the private lives of people. For example, gossips about a divorce or about
someone cheating on his/her spouse often become the headlines. The worst thing is, sometimes, the
stories are reported without firstly seeking the information or confirmation from the person involved in
the stories.
So far, infotainment programs have become a dilemma for some viewers. On one hand, these
programs can run stories on how celebrities build their career and how they feel about being famous,
but on the other hand, these programs also bring terrible consequences, especially for celebrities whose
private lives are scrutinized.
44. The text above mainly discusses about ….
A. The controversy of infotainment programs
B. The positive sides of infotainment programs
C. The negative effects of infotainment programs
D. The reasons of airing infotainment programs
E. The reasons of rejecting the infotainment programs

45. According the text, which statement is true?

The OST (Original Soundtrack) of Brownies

“Bisa saja” is chosen as the first single of the album and theme song of Brownies, since the lyric
reflects the story in the movies.
When Hanung Bramantyo, the director, and Dewa Budjana of Gigi chatted, Budjana expressed
his interest in making a soundtrack album. Then, he recommended a few of Gigi’s songs which the
producer accepted because of the combination they created with the movie.
Since Gigi can provide a variety of colors to add all kinds of musical nuances to enrich the
movie, the producer deemed it unnecessary to find other musicians to complete the OST of Brownies.

If everyone always takes notice of the goods looking people . We may as well get rid of everyone

Question 5-9
To whom it my concern

“Indonesia Idol” is an annual Indonesian televised singing competition which has been airing on RCTI . Part of
the Odor franchise, it originated from the British reality program “Pop Idol” . Indonesian idol is a combination of
reality show and a talent search show . Unfortunately instead of giving the opportunity to anyone who has
talent and capable to be promoted as an idol, I find some weaknesses in this program.
Sometimes the winner is not guaranteed to have a quality of good singer because the winner is merely
determined by public voting by phone and sms. Most of these voters do not consider the jury’s comments on
the contestants performance because they would prepare focusing on the contestants’ physical appearance and
personality rather than his/her singing quality.
As the consequence, after the competition is over, only few of the winners get the chances to get the
professional singers. Furthermore most of them only hive little experience in the show business, while being
professional singers need along process and time.
My suggestion in that “Indonesian Idol” should not determine the winner based on the contestants’
popularity. The singing quality of each contestant should be the first priority.

Yours truly,

There are a lot of discussing is together children should be

given homework or not. It is enough for children having
time to study at school or needing additional time in home
as a good Tim for study after school time?
Some people claim that children do enough work in
school already .they also argue that children have their
hobbies which they want to do after school, such as sport or
music . A further point they make is that a lot of homework
are pointless and does not help the children learn at all.
However, there are also strong arguments arguments
against this point of view . Parents and teachers are argue
that is important to find out whether children can work on
their own without the support from the teacher. They said
that evening is a good for children to sit down and think
about what they have learned in school.
Furthermore they claim that the schooldays is to short to
get anything done . It makes sense to send home task like
independent reading of further writing task which not the
teacher need support.

I think, on balance that some homework is good idea but

that should only given at the week end when children have
more time.

An eclipse of the sun is also called a solar eclipse. The moon orbits or goes around the earth.
As the moon orbits, it sometimes gets directly between earth and the sun. when this happens the
moon casts its shadow on earth. The moon shadow covers only a small part of earth, not the entire
planet.
There are three kinds of solar eclipses. Sometimes the moon appears to block out the whole
sun. this is called a total solar eclipse. A bright ring or hallow appears around the dark disk of the
moon during total eclipse. The suns corona the glowing hot gases that surround the sun produces
this hallow.
Earth can cause a different kind of eclipse, called an eclipse of moon or lunar eclipse. Lunar
eclipses happen when earth gets directly between the sun and the moon. Earth casts a shadow on
the moon. You can see earth’s shadow moving a cross the moon during a lunar eclipse
There are two kinds of lunar eclipses. Sometimes earth’s shadow covers the entire moon. This
is called a total lunar eclipse. Sometimes earth’s shadow falls on only part of the moon. This is
called a partial lunar eclipse. Astronomers are scientists who study things in space. They know
exactly when and where there will be an eclipse. They use math to figure out when eclipses will
happen

Solar energy is one great alternative for future energy sources. It is environmentally friendly
and is renewable, thus making it an excellent energy source. According to the united states
environmental protection agency (EPA) : enough sunlight reaches the earth’s surface very year to
produced by burning all fossil fuels mined and extracted during the same time period.
As with most renewable energy systems, the initial costs of setting up these solar energy
projects is quite expensive. However, the savings on electricity bill in the long-term should make up
for this and year after year, the costs of theses solar energy are falling which will make it more
affordable and widespread
Solar energy will also be powering some 70.0000 homes and several hundred businesses in
Britain soon after the government announced a 10 million investment into photovoltaic (PV )
technologies over the next three years.
Photovoltaic cells provide an unlimited supply of free power by converting sunlight into
electricity using modern semiconductors. Vast arrays of these cells will be placed on roofs and walls
around the country to provide buildings with a renewable source of energy for lighting, heating and
storage
Street lighting and traffic signals can also benefit from this power supply further reducing our
dependence on fossil fuels and nuclear energy.

While most of funeral ceremonies in Indonesia have followed the way of modern religions.
Some tribes in Indonesia still practice traditional funerals. Manggarai people of Flores, in the
southeast part of Indonesia, (people are Austroloid, not mongoloid by race) believe that the spirits
of the dead, called Poti, stay where they used to stay when they were alive, especially near the bed.
After sometime, the Poti move to wells, big trees or crossroads near the house.

They watch their grandchildren, but don’t disturb the living people. After five days, the Poti
will go to Mori Kraeng, the place for the dead. Manggarai people believe that everything in Mori
Karaeng is opposite of that in the world of the living. People break dishes and glasses on the fifth
day so that the poti will have the dishes and glasses in good condition at Mori Karaeng.

TEXT 8

There is a holiday called Labor Thanksgiving Day (Kinro Kansha No Hi) in Japan. It is a national
holiday in Japan dan it takes place annually on November 23. It is held as an occasion for
commemorating labour and production and giving one another thanks.

Events are held throughout Japan in this holiday, such as Nagano Labour festival. The event
encourages thinking about the environment, place and human rights. It is not unusual for early
grade elementary students to create drawings for holiday and give them as gifts to local victims or
police stations. Labour thanksgiving day is actually the modern version for an ancient rice harvest
festival known as Niiname-Sai, believed to have been held as long ago as November of 678.
traditionally, it celebrated the year’s hard work; during the Niiname-Sai ceremony, the emperor
would dedicate the year’s harvest to Kami (spirits) and taste the rice for the first time

The modern holiday was established after world war II in 1948 as a day to mark some of the
changes of the post war constitution of Japan, including fundamental human rights and the
expansion of workers rights. Currently Niiname-sai is held privately by the imperial family while
Labor thanksgiving day has become a national holiday

My first Job

Being very short of money and wanting to do something useful, I applied for a teaching post
advertised at a school in a suburb of London and three days later a letter arrived, summoning me to
Croydon for an interview.
I went to Croydon by train and then I had to walk a dusty street at least a quarter of a mile. As a
result of this journey, I arrived on a hot June morning too desperate to feel nervous.
When I arrived there, I met the headmaster himself. After asking me to sit down, he proceeded to
ask me a number of questions. I assumed that the headmaster and I obviously had singularly little in
common.
After the interview, we discussed about the subjects I should teach and asked the number of
students in my class. I was rather socked because the teaching set-up appalled me. He told me that I
had to split the class up into three groups and teach them in turn at three different levels. Then he

In December 2006, I went to Doha to participate in the 2006 Asian Games, taking part
in a Beach for volley ball championship . We prepared for along time , training hard and
fighting for approval for our participation . Nothing was easy. My partner, Clara, my coach,
King, and I were aiming to get into the top 8 at the Asian Games.

Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle one week before departure, which frustrated me

beyond my belief. I had physiotherapy everyday following the injury, and tried to recover as

choice but to just try my best and have my ankle taped when I played in matches.

We played against teams from Thailand, Mongolia, and Malaysia. The most difficult and

our very best. But finally we lost to them and rank 9. It was so close: we nearly reached our
goal-to be among the first 8 teams.

Henry Hudson (1965-16110) was an English explorer and navigator who explored part
of the Arctic Ocean and northeastern North America. Employed by Holland, he made
trips to find a waterway from Europe to India.

In 1969, on a trip in a ship called Half Moon Hudson found what is now called the
Hudson River. He also discovered Manhattan Island. The Dutch then built a settlement
there and called it New Amsterdam. A governor was appointed, a one legend
Dutchman, called Peter Stuyvesant. This was too much provocation for the English
settlers. A fleet sent by James, Duke of York, sailed from England and anchored off
New Amsterdam. The town gave in without firing a short although the governor did all
he could to make his memo fight. Later, its name was changed from “New
Amsterdam” to New York” to honor the royal duke who had financed the invasion.

Hudson sailed into New York’s harbor on September 3, 1609 and note what an
excellent harbor it was. He sailed up the river about 150 miles (240 km) and noted the
abundance of rich land, but realized that this was not a waterway to India.

Hudson died in 1611 after his crew mutinied and left Hudson, his son, and seven crew
members a drift in a smal6, open boat in Hudson Bay.

In December 2006, I went to Doha to participate in the 2006 Asian Games,

taking part in a Beach for volley ball championship . We prepared for along time , training hard
and fighting for approval for our participation . Nothing was easy. My partner, Clara, my coach,
King, and I were aiming to get into the top 8 at the Asian Games.

Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle one week before departure, which frustrated me

beyond my belief. I had physiotherapy everyday following the injury, and tried to recover as
quickly as possible. Of course, the ankle could not heal completely in a few days, so I had not
choice but to just try my best and have my ankle taped when I played in matches.

Our trip to the Blue Mountain

On Friday, we went to the blue mountain. We stay at David and Della’s house. It has a big
garden with lots of colorful flowers and tennis court.

On Saturday, we saw the three sisters and we went on the scenic railway. It was scary. Then,
Mom and I went shopping with Della. We went to some antique shops and I tried on some old hats. On
Sunday, we went on the scenic Skyway and it rocked. We saw cockatoos having shower.

Mr. Richard’s family was on vacation. They are Mr. and Mrs. Richard with two sons. They went
two London. They saw their travel agent and booked their tickets. They went to the British Embassy to
get visas to enter Britain. They had booked a fourteen-d tour. This includes travel and accommodation.
They also included tours around London.

The family boarded a large Boeing flight. The flight was nearly fourteen hours. On the plane the
cabin crews were very friendly. They gave them newspaper and magazines to read. They gave them
food and drink. There was a film for their entertainment. They had a very pleasant flight. They slept
part the way.

On arrival at Heathrow Airport, they had to go to Customs and immigration. The officers were
pleasant. They checked the document carefully but their manners were very polite. Mr. Richard and his
family collected their bags and went to London Welcome Desk. They arranged the transfer to a hotel.

The hotel was a well-known four-star hotel. The room had perfect view on the park. The room
had its own bathroom and toilet. Instead of keys for the room, they inserted a key-card to open the
door. On the third floor, there was a restaurant serving Asian and European food. They had variety of
food.

The two-week vocation in London went fast. At the end of the 14th day, they were quite tired
but but they felt very happy.

On Sunday my parents, my best friend Novi and I visited a cave at Maros called
Leang-Leang . It was my first time to the cave, and better yet, my best friend came to visit it with me!
When we got there, my parents took arrest in a small hut for visitors of the park,
while Novi and I adventured around the cave with guide. We her a quick lunch with Novi and my
parents , we claim some metal stairs to get to the cave , because the cave was embedded into a small
mountain. The cave was famous for tis primitive cave wall paintings which were some hand print
S and wild boar in paintings. The cave and its surroundings were turned into a national park, so it was
taken care of.
Next stop was a place near the cave where some seashells littered the ground and
some where actually piled into a big mound! The guide said that these piles of seashells are called
kjokkenmoddinger , or kitchen trash. The human who lives here ate from the shells and dumped
leftovers in their “ kitchen”.
We also visited a small museum where they have skeleton of human who lived in
the caves. The skeleton along with some roughly made jewelry and weapons where place inside the
glass cases for display. The walls of the museum were adorned with photograph taken when they did
an excavation ther.
