Text for number 38 to 40
In this modern area, there are still some parents who are hesitant about sending their daughters to
college. The narrow attitude shown to women’s education is largely due to the traditional role of women
in society. A woman is expected to be a wife and a mother. Most parents believe that if their daughter
gets married and does not pursue a career but instead chooses to be a housewife, then the higher
education will be a waste. However, an educated woman is not only a better wife but also contributes to
society.
Nowadays, more and more women are successfully combining career and marriage. Educated
women are richer both emotionally and financially. They are able to find an outlet outside the drudgery
monotony of their homes. They bring more satisfaction and contentment to their lives.
Depriving girls of higher education is crass discrimination. Times have changed; modern’s
society needs the talents of its peope regardless of gender. Today, women work alongside men. In fact,
in the last few decades, women have made outstanding contributions to society.
Women should be giving the freedom to be educated whether or not they get married or go to
work after finishing their education because it is only through education that a woman will find herself
useful and discover what she wants in life. A woman who work is not an insult to her husband.
Conversely, her husband should feel proud of her achievements since marriage is actually an equal
partnership.
Therefore, parents should not think that girls should receive less education just because they will
get married one day.
If you want to advance in your career, you will have to make some carefull decisions about
which jobs to take. Evaluate a job offer for the value it has to your career. It may mean sacrifice at first.
You may have to move to a different region or a different country to get a job that is right for you. You
may have to work late hours, at least temporarily. You might even have to take lower salary for a job
that offers you the experience that you need. But you should never accept a job if it is not related to your
career goals.
Accepting a job that is not within your career path will not give you the training or experience
you need or want. You will find yourself frustated in such a position and consequently will not perform
your best. This will have an effect on the people around you who will not feel as if you are being part of
the team. The best advice is to think carefully before accepting any position and make sure that job is the
one you want to have.
41. What is the most significant factor in evaluating a job?
A. Location
B. Salary
C. Value to your career
D. How much you like it
E. Prestige
A. To Come
B. To go
C. To wait
D. To arrive
E. To invite
49. Why did Hanung Bramantyo agree to nominate Gigi to make the soundtrack? Because ….
A. Budjana expressed his interest in making a soundtrack album
B. Gigi can provide a variety of colors to add all kinds of musical nuances to enrich the movie
C. No movie is perfect without musical score
D. Having the OST of Brownies in your stereo set is more entertaining
E. The OST of Brownies
50. Which of the following statements show the appraisal to the OST of Brownies?
A. “Bisa Saja” is chosen as the first single of the album and theme song of Brownies
B. Budjana expressed his interest in making a soundtrack album
C. It’s always fun to have a piece of brownies in your mouth

Dear Cook.
I’m sick and tired of your magazine. It always ‘bonded this ‘ and’ bonded that’ . You are always
showing picture of cute and gorgeous people . Why don’t you for once take people for likely are?
If everyone always takes notice of the goods looking people . We may as well get rid of everyone
else. What about the disabled or handicapped ?
Why don’t you pin in somebody just like plain old boring people like me? Why don’t you have
magazine bout families that are nice on the inside and re not beautiful in the outside?
I reckon that only good people , are good hearted . I’m deeply disappointed about this and I
want you to do something about it.
From deeply heart.

Question 5-9
To whom it my concern
“Indonesia Idol” is an annual Indonesian televised singing competition which has been airing on RCTI . Part of
the Odor franchise, it originated from the British reality program “Pop Idol” . Indonesian idol is a combination of
reality show and a talent search show . Unfortunately instead of giving the opportunity to anyone who has
talent and capable to be promoted as an idol, I find some weaknesses in this program.
Sometimes the winner is not guaranteed to have a quality of good singer because the winner is merely
determined by public voting by phone and sms. Most of these voters do not consider the jury’s comments on
the contestants performance because they would prepare focusing on the contestants’ physical appearance and
personality rather than his/her singing quality.
As the consequence, after the competition is over, only few of the winners get the chances to get the
professional singers. Furthermore most of them only hive little experience in the show business, while being
professional singers need along process and time.
My suggestion in that “Indonesian Idol” should not determine the winner based on the contestants’
popularity. The singing quality of each contestant should be the first priority.

the Richter scale were recorded in the mountain and the volcano did not burst out hot lava or
other volcanic material from its carter.

Avian influence is an infection caused by avian (bird) influence viruses occur naturally among in
their intestines .Wild birds worldwide carry the viruses intestines but usually do not get sick from them.
However, avian influenza is very contagious among bird and can make some domesticated birds,
including chickens, ducks, and turkeys, very sick and kill them.
Infected birds shed influenza virus in their saliva, nasal secretions and feces, susceptible birds
become infected when they have contact with contaminated secretion or excretions from infected
birds. Domesticated birds may be become infected with avian influenza virus through direct contact
with infected water foul or other infected poultry causes two main form of disease that are
t=distinguish by low and high extremes of virulence. The low pathogenic form may go undetected and
usually causes only mild symptoms( such as ruffled more rapidly through flocks or poultry. This form
may cause disease that affects multiple internal organs and has a mortality rate that can reach 90-

For many years , people have believed that the animal after man were the chimpanzees.
Now however , there is proof that dolphins may be even cleverer than these big apes.
Although a dolphin lives in the sea. It is not a fish. It is a mammal .It is in many ways , there
fore like a human being.
Dolphins have a simple language . They are able to talk to one another. It may be possible
for men to learn how to talk to dolphin. But this will not be easy because dolphin can not hear
the kind of sound man can make. If man wants to talk to dolphins, therefore, he will have to
make a third language which both he and the dolphins can understand.
Dolphins are also very friendly toward man. They often follow ships. There are many
stories abput dolphins guiding ships through difficult and dangerous waters.

Solar energy is one great alternative for future energy sources. It is environmentally friendly
and is renewable, thus making it an excellent energy source. According to the united states
environmental protection agency (EPA) : enough sunlight reaches the earth’s surface very year to
produced by burning all fossil fuels mined and extracted during the same time period.
As with most renewable energy systems, the initial costs of setting up these solar energy
projects is quite expensive. However, the savings on electricity bill in the long-term should make up
for this and year after year, the costs of theses solar energy are falling which will make it more
affordable and widespread
Solar energy will also be powering some 70.0000 homes and several hundred businesses in
Britain soon after the government announced a 10 million investment into photovoltaic (PV )
technologies over the next three years.
Photovoltaic cells provide an unlimited supply of free power by converting sunlight into
electricity using modern semiconductors. Vast arrays of these cells will be placed on roofs and walls
around the country to provide buildings with a renewable source of energy for lighting, heating and
storage
Street lighting and traffic signals can also benefit from this power supply further reducing our
dependence on fossil fuels and nuclear energy.

While most of funeral ceremonies in Indonesia have followed the way of modern religions.
Some tribes in Indonesia still practice traditional funerals. Manggarai people of Flores, in the
southeast part of Indonesia, (people are Austroloid, not mongoloid by race) believe that the spirits
of the dead, called Poti, stay where they used to stay when they were alive, especially near the bed.
After sometime, the Poti move to wells, big trees or crossroads near the house.
They watch their grandchildren, but don’t disturb the living people. After five days, the Poti
will go to Mori Kraeng, the place for the dead. Manggarai people believe that everything in Mori
Karaeng is opposite of that in the world of the living. People break dishes and glasses on the fifth
day so that the poti will have the dishes and glasses in good condition at Mori Karaeng.

There is a holiday called Labor Thanksgiving Day (Kinro Kansha No Hi) in Japan. It is a national
holiday in Japan dan it takes place annually on November 23. It is held as an occasion for
commemorating labour and production and giving one another thanks.
Events are held throughout Japan in this holiday, such as Nagano Labour festival. The event
encourages thinking about the environment, place and human rights. It is not unusual for early
grade elementary students to create drawings for holiday and give them as gifts to local victims or
police stations. Labour thanksgiving day is actually the modern version for an ancient rice harvest
festival known as Niiname-Sai, believed to have been held as long ago as November of 678.
traditionally, it celebrated the year’s hard work; during the Niiname-Sai ceremony, the emperor
would dedicate the year’s harvest to Kami (spirits) and taste the rice for the first time
The modern holiday was established after world war II in 1948 as a day to mark some of the
changes of the post war constitution of Japan, including fundamental human rights and the
expansion of workers rights. Currently Niiname-sai is held privately by the imperial family while
Labor thanksgiving day has become a national holiday

New Amsterdam. The town gave in without firing a short although the governor did all
he could to make his memo fight. Later, its name was changed from “New
Amsterdam” to New York” to honor the royal duke who had financed the invasion.
Hudson sailed into New York’s harbor on September 3, 1609 and note what an
excellent harbor it was. He sailed up the river about 150 miles (240 km) and noted the
abundance of rich land, but realized that this was not a waterway to India.

members a drift in a smal6, open boat in Hudson Bay.
It happened on Sunday morning a few days ago. When I was about to have my

stores that not have any fresh pastries, and I ended up buying four slices or wheat
bread. I was frustrated for two reasons. Firstly, I couldn’t enjoy my coffee on Sunday
morning and secondly the sales woman charged me $ 3.00 for four slices of bread.
Next I returned to the building where I lived on the tenth floor, step into the elevator,
pushed the button and got out. When I reached my apartment I tried to unlock the
door, I could not turn the key. I made a a few attempts without success. I started
banging on the door hoping to wake up my daughter. I was not ser of the successful at
that either. I can’t explain how it crossed my mind to check the number of the
apartment was correct, except for the first digit for the apartment was on the ninth
floor, but the tenth. I was shocked to realized that I had been banging on somebody
else’s door. I still muse over what I might have opened if somebody has opened the
door and what he or she would have said to me at 8.00 am on Sunday morning.

My first Job
Being very short of money and wanting to do something useful, I applied for a teaching post
advertised at a school in a suburb of London and three days later a letter arrived, summoning me to
Croydon for an interview.
I went to Croydon by train and then I had to walk a dusty street at least a quarter of a mile. As a
result of this journey, I arrived on a hot June morning too desperate to feel nervous.
When I arrived there, I met the headmaster himself. After asking me to sit down, he proceeded to
ask me a number of questions. I assumed that the headmaster and I obviously had singularly little in
common.
After the interview, we discussed about the subjects I should teach and asked the number of
students in my class. I was rather socked because the teaching set-up appalled me. He told me that I
had to split the class up into three groups and teach them in turn at three different levels. Then he
made me come to the thought of teaching algebra and geometry two subjects at which I had been
completely incompetent at school. But since I needed money, I took the job.

Two years ago John Smith accompanied , not only by his wife, but also by his two
children, set out from London to drive to Singapore . Along the Asian highway(travel
publication Ltd) is an account of his adventures.
The first part of the journey across Europe, described in a chapter called “travelling
hopefully”. Was not difficult. Their problem did not begin until they reached Turkey and began
the long overland trip through Iran, Afghanistan , Nepal, Pakistan and Burma.
The main difficulties we. re bad roads, and in some places, a shortage of water.
The car broke down many times and on two occasion had to be towed more than a hundred
miles to be nearest town. In Nepal, where the road was little more than a mountain track, the
car was involved in an accident and the family had to say 150 miles away in Katmandu for a
week while the damage was repaired.
The Smith took with them food and camping equipment. Although this extra
weight probably caused many problems of breakdowns, John Smith believed that he was right
to be prepared to eat and to sleep anywhere. “Good health,” he writes” is the most important
thing on a trip like this. You can not stay healthy unless you eat and sleep well.
Along the Asian highway is a well-written and continuously interesting story: a
record of the courage and an endurance of an ordinary family who took the most
extraordinary holiday.
