One Sunday morning, Mr Surya and his family went to the Botanical
Garden in Bogor. As soon as they arrived there, a guide met the family
and then showed the way to the gardens. They all walked together.
“I like it here,” Mrs. Surya said, soon after they entered the gardens.
“There’s a lot of shade here, and it’s quiet.”
“Yes, mother, this is a very good place for a picnic. It’s shady
everywhere and the scenery is beautiful,” Anjani said. They walked slowly
along the shady paths of the gardens.
The guide was very good. He explained everything about the garden.
Sometimes they stopped for a while to examine a plant carefully or to
enjoy the beautiful scenery in the gardens.
Just then they come to a glass house that surprised everybody. It was
full of colourful orchids. “I like this best,” Mrs. Surya said, pointing a
beautiful orchid near the gate. “I like that, too,” the guide said. “They
named it after ‘Sirikit’, the Queen of Thailand. They gave it that name on
the day of her visit to Indonesia.”
“You must have very different kinds of orchid, here,” Dewo said.
“Oh, yes,” the guide answered. “We plant different kinds of orchids,
and we try to get other kinds of orchids from the ones that we have. We’ve
been doing this for many years, and now we have more than one thousand
kinds of orchids.”
The water lilies were also interesting. There were three different
colours of them on the water. “You’re lucky to be here early,” the guide
said. “These flowers only bloom in the morning and evening when the sun
is not too hot for them. These have been blooming since about six o’clock
this morning.”
It was almost noon when everybody shook hands with the guide and
thanked him before they left the gardens. Everybody was satisfied with the
trip.
