Puji syukur penulis panjatkan kehadirat Tuhan Yang Maha Esa karena berkas dan
karunianya penulis dapat menyelesaikan tugas makalah yang berjudul
“RECALLING ROUTINES AND BEING GOOD – A POSITIVE APPROACH
TO DISCIPLINE”. Penulis juga mengucapkan terima kasih kepada, Bapak Dody
F. Pandimun Ambarita, S.Pd., M.Hum. selaku dosen pengampu pada mata kuliah
pembelajaran bilingual dan kepada kedua orang tua serta teman-teman yang telah
membantu memberikan kelancaran dan dukungan dalam proses pembuatan
makalah ini. Makalah ini penulis buat untuk memenuhi tugas rutin pada mata
kuliah”PEMBELAJARAN BILINGUAL”.

Penulis sangat berharap dengan adanya makalah ini dapat memberikan


manfaat dan edukasi mengenai recalling routines and being good – a positive
approach to discipline dalam pembelajaran di sd. Oleh karena itu, penulis
mengharapkan kritik dan saran dari pembaca untuk kemudian makalah ini dapat
penulis perbaiki dan menajdi lebih baik lagi.

Demikian yang dapat penulis sampaikan, semoga makalah ini dapat

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1.Background Of the Paper


Teaching is the process of attending to people‟s needs, experiences and feelings,
and intervening so that they learn particular things, and go beyond the given.
Teaching is one of the instruments of education and is a special function is to
impart understanding and skill. The main function of teaching is to make learning
effective and meaningful. The learning process would get completed as a result of
teaching. So, teaching and learning are closely related to each other. Teaching is a
process in which one individual teaches or instruct another individual. Teaching is
considered as the act of imparting instructions to the learners inside and outside
the classroom situation. Teaching and learning process is the part and parcel of the
education system. Whole education system depends on the aims and objectives of
the teaching & learning process. In the teaching-learning process, the teacher, the
learner, the curriculum are organised in a systematic way to achieve the
educational goals and objectives. Learning is an inferred process and differs from
the performance which is the observed behaviour/response/action.

In the learning procces, the teacher is able to organize all classroom activities in
English that accompany the action (language accompanying action , the classroom
is the experimental lab of the child. Because children spend a major part of their
formative years in school, it becomes vital to examine the roles of classroom
management and discipline as an

important dynamic in student experience and success. A controlled classroom


environment is essential for effective learning, good teacher-pupil relationships,
and peer collaboration. Results of several national Gallup polls clearly document
that both the general public and teachers agree that a major problem for public
schools is lack of student discipline in classrooms (Elam, Rose, & Gallup, 1996;

Rose & Gallup, 2003, 2004) Therefore, we write a paper on English expressions
for teaching, namely recalling routines and the positive approach.

DISCUSSION
2.1. Recalling Routines

Dalam situs blog Belajarbahasainggrisindonesia.com dikatakan bahwa Rutinitas


adalah suatu kegiatan yang dilakukan secara rutin, dalam kata lain bisa juga
disebut dengan habit atau kebiasaan, dimana konteksnya bisa terjadi dalam jangka
waktu yang pendek maupun panjang, seperti kebiasaan setiap pagi, setiap hari,
setiap bulan, bahkan setiap tahun

In the classroom, routines help to minimise behavioural challenges in the


classroom and are key to a well-managed and organised classroom. Children
enjoy routines that are easy to understand and easy to accomplish, yet flexible
enough to alter if circumstances change. Research shows that most behavioural
problems result from a lack of consistent classroom routines.in electronical book
(Wels Goverment 2012:9) stated that class routines have several ways :

 Display the class routines and go over them with the children on a regular
basis. Check children„s understanding of the routines.
 Explain the rationale behind the routine.
 Model the routine or procedure for the children.
 Be consistent.

2.2. The Examples of Recalling Routines

Pengucapan recalling routines umumnya memakai kata what do we do when..


Pada buku karya Slattery, Mary.and Jane Willis (2001:25) dijelaskan bahhwa
terdapat beberapa contoh ungkapan recalling routines yang bisa diucapkan oleh
para pendidik yaitu :

-What do we do when..
a. ...we are learning a new song

b. ...when we are having a story?

c. ...when we're reading a book?

d. ..when we're going to play 'follow the leader'?

e. ...after cutting out and sticking

f. ..at the end of the lesson?

2.3. Being good – a positive approach to discipline

Steffens,Patricia E.(1993) positive approach to discipline helps children work


together rather than against each other. It preserves a child's dignity and self-
esteem while encouraging cooperative, positive, and loving relationships.
Learning to use positive discipline is based upon mutual respect and cooperation,
which can have a powerful affect on helping a child develop confidence and a
strong self image.

In class, you can get your student to calm down and control them but still sound
positive and encourage good behavior by taking a positive approach. therefore,
teaching a positive approach to children is very necessary.

Adapun Tujuan dari pendekatan positif adalah mengajar sedemikian rupa


sehingga anak-anak dapat mengembangkan batinnya. Karena orang dewasa tidak
akan selalu ada untuk memberi tahu anak apa yang harus dilakukan, Maka dari itu
kita sebagai pendidik haruslah menanamkan disiplin dan membantu anak
mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir,menilai, dan membuat keputusan sendiri.
Remaja perlu belajar disiplin diri dimulai dengan hal-hal kecil

2.4. The Examples of Positive Approach

Pada buku berjudul English for Primary Teachers a handbook menuliskan bahwa
terdapat beberapaungkapan yang busa digunakan oleh para pendidik yaitu :

a. Please stop talking now. No more talking for a bit. Please keep quiet.

b. Shh. Calm down now. Okay. That's better.

c. Quiet please! Settle down and listen. That's good Eva. Thank you Emilio.

d. Everyone is sitting nicely... except for Tom! Tom, could you sit down like the

others please?

e. Okay, we need to be quieter to hear what everybody is saying. These two

groups are doing an excellent job. Thank you for being quiet. Now we are

going to listen to a new song.

f. Now who can tell me the name of the book? Lots of hands raised. Excellent.

CONCLUSION
3.1 Conclusion

Dapat disimpulkan bahwa Rutinitas adalah suatu kegiatan yang dilakukan


secara rutin, dalam kata lain bisa juga disebut dengan habit atau kebiasaan,
dimana konteksnya bisa terjadi dalam jangka waktu yang pendek maupun
panjang, seperti kebiasaan setiap pagi, setiap hari, setiap bulan, bahkan setiap
tahun.

Being good – a positive approach to discipline adalah perbuatan baik


dengan tujuan mengajar sedemikian rupa sehingga anak-anak dapat
mengembangkan batinnya. Karena orang dewasa tidak akan selalu ada untuk
memberi tahu anak apa yang harus dilakukan, Maka dari itu kita sebagai pendidik
haruslah menanamkan disiplin dan membantu anak mengembangkan kemampuan
berpikir,menilai, dan membuat keputusan sendiri. Remaja perlu belajar disiplin
diri dimulai dengan hal-hal kecil.

3.2 Suggest

sebagai seorang guru nantinya perlu mempraktikan recalling routines,


being good- a positive approach to discipline kepada siswa untuk
mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir menilai dan membuat keputusan sendiri
pada siswa.
