Metode Suzuki (2008: 4)
adalah metode mengajar yang
khusus menuntun anak-anak
usia dini untuk bermain alat
musik. Metode pengajaran ini
paling luas diterapkan dalam
permainan biola, meskipun
juga bisa diterapkan pada
alat-alat musik yang lain
Seperti cello, flute dan
piano. Metode pengajaran
khusus ini dikembangkan
oleh Shinici Suzuki,
seorang pendidik dan
pemain biola ternama dari
Jepang tahun 1940-an.
Metode Suzuki adalah metode pembelajaran musik yang
menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran bahasa ibu,
pembelajaran yang diterapkan pada anak-anak dalam belajar
musik khususnya biola. Metode ini sering disebut juga
dengan pendidikan bakat, yakni metode dengan pendekatan
pembelajaran bahasa ibu yang menyakini bahwa bakat yang
dimiliki anak dapat diciptakan dari proses pembelajaran.
Setiap manusia lahir dengan potensi yang tinggi, mereka
mempunyai hak untuk berkembang dengan maksimal dan
berproses secara alami seperti anak belajar bahasa ibu. Di
dalam pembelajaran musik harus melakukan tahapan belajar
secara berurutan yaitu mendengarkan musik, menyanyikan
atau menirukan, mengulang terus-menerus dan
menyempurnakannya.

Musik yang berkualitas diawali Pemberian Semangat
sejak lahir
Suzuki (2008: 05), berpendapat bahwa
potensi atau kemampuan musik bukanlah
bakat bawaan, melainkan suatu kemampuan
yang dapat dikembangkan dan dilatih. Anak
manapun yang dilatih bermain alat musik
secara benar dapat mengembangkan
kemampuan musikalnya. Sama halnya
dengan semua anak yang mengembangkan
berbicara dengan bahasa ibu mereka.
Pendekatan bahasa ibu diterapkan Suzuki
untuk mengajarkan anak didiknya dalam
bermain alat musik. Adapun metodenya
adalah dengan mendengarkan rekaman
musik dan kemudian belajar memainkannya
pada alat musik, dan selanjutnya memainkan
lagu dengan menghafal di luar kepala
sebelum mereka diajari membaca notasi
lagunya.
 Tujuan Shinichi Suzuki

Tujuan Shinichi Suzuki tidak hanya untuk mengembangkan

musisi profesional, tetapi untuk memelihara manusia, mencintai
dan membantu mengembangkan karakter masing-masing anak
melalui belajar musik. Suzuki mempunyai keyakinan bahwa
"kemampuan musik bukanlah bakat bawaan, tetapi
kemampuan yang dapat dikembangkan”. Setiap anak yang
dilatih dapat mengembangkan kemampuan musik, sama
seperti semua anak-anak mengembangkan kemampuan untuk
berbicara bahasa ibu mereka.
