SEJARAH TENIS MEJA DI DUNIA

Tenis meja, yang awalnya disebut ping pong, memiliki sejarah yang menarik
dan terinspirasi dari tenis lapangan. Ketika cuaca buruk menghalangi
permainan tenis di luar ruangan pada abad ke-19, ide-ide inovatif muncul untuk
mengatasi situasi tersebut. Lahirnya tenis meja berasal dari ide untuk bermain
tenis di dalam ruangan dengan menggunakan bola karet atau gabus di atas meja.
Ketika sebuah bola celluloid dibawa dari Amerika Serikat ke Inggris pada tahun
1890, itu merupakan kemajuan besar dalam perkembangan permainan ini. Bola
celluloid ini kemudian digunakan dalam permainan. Ketika bola dipukul, dia
membuat suara "ping" dan "pong", yang memberikan nama alternatif untuk
permainan ini. Permainan tenis meja cepat menjadi salah satu olahraga paling
disukai di dunia. Dalam upaya untuk mengorganisasi dan International Table
Tennis Federation (ITTF) didirikan pada tahun 1926 untuk memperluas
jangkauannya. Tujuan utama dari penubuhan ITTF adalah untuk membangun
sebuah platform organisasi yang akan memungkinkan pengembangan dan
standarisasi olahraga tenis meja di seluruh dunia. Sejak saat itu, tenis meja
berkembang menjadi kompetisi profesional dan juga menjadi rekreasi.
SEJARAH TENIS MEJA DI INDONESIA
Sejarah tenis meja Indonesia dimulai pada tahun 1930 ketika olahraga ini dikenal dan dimainkan
sebagai permainan rekreasi di balai pertemuan orang Belanda. Hanya kelompok tertentu dalam
masyarakat yang boleh mengikuti pelatihan pada saat itu, terutama keluarga pejabat yang tergabung
dalam balai pertemuan. Pada tahun 1939, para legenda tenis meja membentuk asosiasi yang disebut
PPPSI (Persatuan Tenis Meja Seluruh Indonesia). Setelah Perang Dunia II, pada tahun 1958, pada
kongres di Surakarta, PPPSI diubah namanya menjadi PTMSI, yang berarti Persatuan Tenis Meja
Seluruh Indonesia. Pada tahun 1960, PTMSI menjadi anggota federasi tenis meja Asia yang dikenal
sebagai TTFA, yang memperkuat posisinya di tingkat regional. Banyak klub tenis meja di Indonesia
menunjukkan perkembangan pesat tenis meja. tenis, dengan pertandingan PON, PORDA, POMDA,
dan POSENI muncul di berbagai tingkat pendidikan. Indonesia dapat berpartisipasi dalam kejuaraan
resmi tingkat internasional setelah menjadi anggota ITTF pada tahun 1961. Organisasi seperti
Silatama (Sirkuit Laga Tenis Meja Utama) yang didirikan pada tahun 1983 dan Silaturna yang
didirikan pada tahun 1986 membantu mengembangkan tenis meja di Indonesia selain kegiatan
pertandingan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk menilai dan meningkatkan kemampuan atlet tenis meja
nasional.
GARIS WAKTU SEJARAH
1880 Sebagai pengganti bola karet dan gabus, bola seluloid memantul dengan sempurna,
meningkatkan kualitas permainan.
1901 Inggris memiliki Asosiasi Tenis Meja dan saingannya, Asosiasi Ping Pong, yang digabungkan
pada tahun 1903. Di Inggris, buku pertama tentang permainan ini diterbitkan. Pemukiman Barat
dan misi perdagangan membawa permainan ke Tiongkok.
1926 Kejuaraan Dunia Pertama dimulai di Berlin, yang diadakan di London, Inggris, oleh Federasi
Tenis Meja Internasional (ITTF). Konstitusi ITTF dan undang-undang standar pertama diadopsi.
Ivor Montagu (ENG) diangkat menjadi ketua.
