C. TUJUAN PEMBELAJARAN

 Setelah peserta didik dan guru berdikusi tentang tayangan pembelajaran melalui youtube di LCD
Proyektor, pesera didik mampu mengindentifikasi social function, struktur teks, dan unsur
kebahasaan descriptive text.

A. RINGKASAN MATERI

DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

A. Descriptive text ( describing people, thing, place, animal)


Definition A descriptive text is made up of identification or general statement and description element.
Identification introduces and identifies specific objects (a person, thing, place, animal, or event) intended
to be described. Description describes the intended objects using descriptive details or information about
the objects’ characteristics, appearances, personality, habits, or qualities (Derewianka, 2004; Butt et.al.,
2000; Gerot & Wignell, 1994; Knapp and Watkins, 2005, p. 149; Emilia & Christie, 2013)

B. Generic structure
a. Identification: (contains about the introduction of a person, and animal will be described.) Description:
contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by decribing its features,
forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describe.
b. Description: contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by decribing its
features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describe.
C. Significant Lexicogrammatical Features
a. Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). for example: uncle Jim,
my father etc)
b. The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example: a handsome man, kind,
beautiful, smart)
c. The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it tells the fact of
the object described.
d. Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, cut etc….)
e. Focusing on a specific object Generally using Present Tense Using linking verbs and verbs to classify
things and describe appearances, characteristics, parts, and functions Frequently using pre- and post-
modified noun phrases
f. Using adjectives and adverbs to add information to nouns and verbs in the provision of detailed
information

D. Example

My best friend is Ernesto and he is my classmate. We go to school together. Ernesto comes from and
educated family. His father is a school principal and his mother is also a teacher. ( identification)

He is punctual, well-educated, and has good manners. He is really hard working. He always does his
homework. He is also well-dressed and well-behaved. All teachers have a high opinion of him. Ernesto has a
well-built body. He is gentle but fearless. He takes part in all sports, scout, trekking and mountaineering
activities. He has a good heart. He is truthful, honest and obedient. Description He also plays the guitar, and he
makes his parents very proud of him. He secures good marks and is usually top of his class in examinations. He
inspires me to work harder. He keeps me away from bad company. I am happy to have such a friend.

The Eiffel Tower


1 The Eiffel Tower is an iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris. Built in 1889, it has
become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The
tower is the tallest building in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world; millions of
people ascend it every year. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as
the entrance arch to the 1889 World’s Fair.
2 The tower stands 324 meters (1,063 ft) tall, about the same height as an 81-story building. Upon its
completion, it surpassed the Washington Monument to assume the title of tallest man-made structure in
the world, a title it held for 41 years, until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930;
however, due to the addition in 1957 of the antenna, the tower is taller than the Chrysler Building. Not
including broadcast antennas, it is the second-tallest structure in France after 2004, Millau Viaduct.
3 The tower has three levels for visitors. Tickets can be purchased to ascend, by stairs or lift, to the first
and second levels. The way to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the way from the first to the second
level. The third and the highest level is accessible only by elevator. Both the first and second levels
feature restaurants. The tower has become the most prominent symbol of both Paris and France, often in
the establishing shot of films set in the city.
