CINDERELLA
One day, the king decided to throw a ball
and invited all the young maidens in the
kingdom. While Cinderella’s sisters made
her help them get ready for the ball, not
once did they ask her if she would like to go
with them.

Once they left, her Fairy Godmother appeared and helped Cinderella go to the ball
with a bit of magic that would only last until midnight. At the ball, Cinderella caught
the eye of the prince, as she was the most beautiful girl there, and they danced all
night.
When midnight came, Cinderella had to leave the ball, and in her hurry, one of her
glass slippers fell off her feet. The prince found this slipper and vowed to marry the
girl who the slipper belonged to.
The prince went from house to house,
looking for the girl who’s foot fit the
slipper, and he reached Cinderella’s house.
Though Cinderella’s stepsisters and
stepmother tried to keep her from trying it
on, the glass slipper was a perfect fit, and
she was soon married to the prince and
lived happily ever after. This is a wonderful
story that captures how keeping a humble
attitude will reap its rewards.

“The Woodcutter and King of Mice”

The king of the mice lived inside a banyan tree in a forest. One day, a poor man was
cutting down some trees. As he started to cut down the banyan tree, the king of the mice
grew frightened. "Please, leave the tree standing," he said to the woodcutter, "and I'll
give you a piece of gold every day."

The woodcutter agreed. So, every evening the

king of the mice took out a piece of gold from
under the roots of the tree and gave it to the
woodcutter.Thewoodcutter took the
pieces of gold home and showed them to his wife.

After a few days, his wife asked him, "Where does

the gold come from?" "Don't worry about
that," he said, "just keep it."
A few days later she asked him again, but he did not tell her. "If you don't tell me," she
said, "I'll go and tell the government or even the king that you're a robber."
The woodcutter was frightened of his wife when she was angry. So he said, "Every
evening the king of the mice gives me a piece of gold from under the roots of the tree."
"Oh; you are stupid!" his wife said. "You've been tricked by a mouse. He gives you one
piece of gold every evening but the rest of the gold is under the tree all the time! Why
don't you cut down the tree and take it all away?”The woodcutter did as he was told. He
cut down the tree. But when he looked under the roots, the gold was not there. The king
of the mice had run away too.

That night, the king of the mice crept up to the woodcutter's house and took back all the
gold. So the woodcutter was as poor as before.

THE LEGEND OF “BATU MENANGIS”

One day, they went down to the village for shopping. The market was far
away from their house. They walked there. The girl got dressed very nice
and walked in front of her mother. While the widow walked behind,
carried a basket and wore dirty clothes. Nobody knew they were mother
and child.

Eventually, the mother’s heart hurt to hear the answer. Mother prayed to
God to punish her ungodly daughter. Suddenly, the girl stopped and slowly
turned to be a stone. The girl cried and apologized to his mother. But it
was too late. A pretty girl was turned into a stone and continued to tear;
it’s called A Crying Stone.
On a hill in the area of Borneo, there lived a poor widow and her
daughter. The girl was really beautiful. However, she was very lazy
and spoiled. She loved to dress up every day, but never helped her
mother.

While entering the village, people looked at them. The young men were so
fascinated by the girl’s beauty. However, she was in contrast to the woman
walking behind her. It made people wonder. Some young men asked her
whether the woman was her mother. But the girl arrogantly replied that
the widow was her maid. More people asked her along the way to the
market. She gave the same answer that the widow was her slave

The Lion and The Mouse

Once when a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down upon
him; this soon awoke the lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and open his big
jaws to swallow him.
“Pardon, O king,” cried the little mouse, “Forgive me this time, I shall never forget
it; perhaps I may be able to do you a good turn some of these days.”
The lion was so tickled at the idea of the mouse being able to help him. Then, he
lifted up his paw and let him go.
Sometime after, the lion was caught in a trap. Some hunters, who wanted to carry
him alive to the King, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry
him in. Just then, the little mouse happened to pass by and see the sad plight in which
the lion was. The little mouse went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that
bounded the king of the beasts. Soon after the little mouse had finished gnawing away
the ropes, he asked the lion to run away.

Story 2

One day, there was a slave whose name was Babu. His master was very, very bad. You know, he
oftenpunched Babu and did not offer him food for days. Poor Babu! So he escaped into a forest
and slept in a cave.
Next morning, he heard a loud roar. In front of him, at the mouth of the cave, was a very big lion.
You see, Babu was scared to death! Kind of scary, isn’t it? But he could not escape.
But the lion didn’t attack him. It was tame. There was a large thorn in its right front foot. The lion
looked at Babu. It seemed to say something like: ”Please help me. It’s very painful.” Babu walked
bravely to the lion and pulled out the thorn. Babu and the lion turned out to be friends.
